A Cluster Of Heads…

8 Jun

I’ve been flipping through old sketchbooks, reminding myself of work I’d forgotten about. I came across a cluster of heads in one that I’d bought from the Tate gallery in London. Nice sketchbook. I like drawing heads and faces, but children’s faces are so difficult. The younger they are, the more they look like an alien life form. There’s a mixture of media here, graphite, charcoal pencil, Faber Castell Pitt drawing pen and biro (ballpoint).

Great sketches. These are really good. Children can be difficult. Too many lines and they look like wizened old men.

the second drawing, the child in profile, reminds me a bit of Van Gogh in the character of the line — they’re a beautiful group of drawings

Thanks Aletha. I should group my drawings more, I think. Because they’re on single pages, I don’t tend to think of them in groups

it’s also nice seeing them one by one — maybe both ways — different presentations bring out different qualities

I’m thinking of putting all my sketches together digitally – heads, people in cafes, on the beach and so on…. see what they look like en masse
