Making Mari My Own

Making Mari 7

I’ve finished putting my flat pack Mari Lwyd together and now I’m customising her. I had a roll of banana paper knocking around so I ripped it up into small bits and pasted it over the surface with PVA glue. I wanted something more interesting than plain white.

Making Mari 3

The Mari Lwyd is a very old Welsh tradition that celebrates the “old” New Year, Hen Galan, which falls on January 13th. I’ve left it a bit late to do anything with her this year, we’re under lockdown anyway, but hopefully next year she’ll be out and about, causing shenanigans in the neighbourhood 😀

A Chance To Own One Of My Artworks

I have some small screenprints for sale, inspired by my drawings of the taxidermy collection at Swansea Museum. I have given these antique artifacts a modern twist by combining them with images of rubbish – old fruit nets, bubble wrap and plastic – highlighting the problem of human pollution and how it affects wildlife.

20 percent of the cost of each screenprint sold goes to support Swansea Print Workshop, which receives no public funding.

Have you tried using a 3d printer? Alistair, a friend of mine has one. I am sure he would not mind printing you a Mari. You simply use a piece of software called Cura witch is free.
