A Thick Border

Here’s another 30 minute pose from last week’s life drawing session at Swansea Print Workshop. I’m working directly onto the paper (heavyweight vintage) with ink (home-made walnut husk) without mapping the drawing with a pencil first. The result isn’t as accurate but it’s pushing me out of my comfort zone, which is a good thing.Continue reading “A Thick Border”

Stone Sculptures At Maen Ceti

I did some sketching en plein air today at Cefn Bryn on the Gower Peninsula. The main attraction has always been Maen Ceti (Arthur’s Stone), but recently a nearby cairn has been getting more attention with people making stone tower sculptures on it. Husb decided to build one and I drew him. I used black,Continue reading “Stone Sculptures At Maen Ceti”

Physicality And Personality

Here’s one of the 30 minute poses from the life drawing session at Swansea Print Workshop last night. It’s good to be back, even if the numbers are so restricted. I tried doing an online life drawing class once during lock down but I couldn’t get on with it at all. Our models are aContinue reading “Physicality And Personality”

Life Drawing Tonight

Just back from life drawing session at Swansea Print Workshop, working with my home made walnut ink onto a heavyweight vintage paper. This is a quick pose, 10 minutes. And now I’m off to bed. Nos da, good night ๐Ÿ˜€

Faffing With Vincent’s Bedroom

I’ve been doing one of Ed Sumner’s Zoom tutorials this evening, copying van Gogh’s painting of his bedroom. It’s a two hour session and it’s mostly done but it needs a bit more faffing, maybe another couple of hours. But not tonight, it’s late so I’m off to bed. Nos da, good night ๐Ÿ™‚

A Quick Head

I had 10 minutes or so to kill at last week’s life drawing session at Swansea Print Workshop so I did a quickish sketch of the model’s head with conte crayons in black and sanguine. A Chance To Own One Of My Artworks I have some small screenprints for sale, inspired by my drawings ofContinue reading “A Quick Head”

A Seated Pose

And another life drawing from the Thursday evening group at Swansea Print Workshop, using my home-made walnut ink and black conte crayon onto vintage paper. It’s a 25 minute pose. I’m trying to push away from my normal detailed way of working so I’m using a big splooshy brush with the ink to free myselfContinue reading “A Seated Pose”

The 30 Minute Standing

Here’s a thirty minute pose from life drawing this week. I used my home made walnut ink and a black conte crayon onto some vintage paper (no watermark, no name) that I had been given. I started with a lighter wash and splooshed it on, letting it drip. The paper is very rough and IContinue reading “The 30 Minute Standing”

Two 5s And A 10 On A Cyanotype

Here are three sketches from the life drawing session at Swansea Print Workshop this week, two 5 minute poses and one for 10 minutes. I have been working with this model for years, she’s a strong woman with great presence. I used conte crayons in white, black and sanguine onto an old cyanotype I recycledContinue reading “Two 5s And A 10 On A Cyanotype”

Friday Faking A Matisse

It’s Friday so it faking a masterpiece day, with Ed Sumner’s Cheese and Wine Painting Club on Facebook. He started it at the beginning of the first lockdown in March 2020 and has carried on, I think we’re up to about 60 weeks now. This is a nude study by Henri Matisse. I used LiquitexContinue reading “Friday Faking A Matisse”
