About Me

Who am I?

I am Rosie Scribblah aka Rose Davies and I’m an Artist, Educator and Blogger.

I work directly from life, carrying a sketchbook at all times looking for any opportunity to have a scribble. And I’m a printmaker and occasionally a painter.

Focus on the Mari Lwyd

The end of the year is coming up fast and as the New Year approaches, here in Wales it’s the season of the Mari Lwyd, a mythological horse. Here’s my own personal Mari Lwyd (with Husb inside) and a selection of my Mari Lwyd prints and drawings. To see my Mari Lwyd art that’s for sale, please click here).

I work on the streets, in public indoors and outdoors, bringing the practice of art directly to people who may never have been into a gallery or seen art being created.

Sometimes my sketchbook drawings become the basis for printmaking work, monotypes, screenprints, drypoints …..

A monotype – Fair Play For Museum Staff

My work with homeless people and others excluded from and by society is reflected in the subjects I choose and sometimes leads to commissions, like this one for SkyArts television channel. It’s a very large woodcut and also a spoken word piece, meant to be read out loud.

Here Be Dragons

And more recently I was commissioned by a cartel of Welsh Universities to develop an arts project in a very deprived area of my home city … “Walk Waun Wen, Talk Waun Wen” … see more about it here.

I have exhibited in various traditional galleries, online galleries, in print, nationally and internationally, and on television. I also work internationally and have carried out artists residencies in the USA and Pakistan as well as Wales.

I work from my studio in Swansea, Wales, UK where I live with my partner and our cats, Sparta Puss and William ChatNoir.

I have a Masters in Adult Education from University of Wales, Swansea; a Post Graduate Certificate in Education from West Glamorgan Institute of Higher Education; and a Diploma in Art from Swansea Art College.

MY BLOG

I POST an artwork a day, mostly drawings but sometimes work in progress and printmaking. I have thousands of drawings in sketchbooks; it’s hard to exhibit sketches in galleries and yet lots of people like to see drawings, so a blog seems like a good idea. It also motivates me to keep trying to draw every day – it’s easy to let life get in the way of drawing. For a direct link to my blog pages please click here.
