I started playing with the idea of “Angels” a few days ago, and one of the things I did was write down lots of things that angels are, or could be, and then I started researching them. Some angels are Byzantine, there’s a strong tradition of representing angels in Byzantine art, often mosaics and icons. I’m trying not to slavishly copy existing angels, but rather be influenced by the Byzantine style. I worked with my home-made walnut ink onto recycled printmaking paper coated with acrylic screenprint ink.
I have an exhibition, “Carved Heads And Other Creatures”, part of MANIFEST at The Workers Gallery in Ynyshir. The show runs until October 31st. Open Saturdays 10.00 – 17.00, other times by appointment. Come and have a look if you’re in the are in the area.
