Seen And Heard

26 Dec

Hospital visiting again this evening. It’s very hot there and hard to stop from nodding off; sketching is one way to keep awake. It’s been very quiet over the past two days; everyone who could go home was sent out on Xmas Eve, but a whole new intake of elderly frail men arrived today. Drawings like these might be disturbing, but this is reality for some people and I’m not the sort of artist who only draws the prettier side of life. Elderly people deserve to be heard and in my opinion, they deserve to be seen as well.

These are very well done and moving. I like the flowing line.
I cannot do this. I would be breaching trust. I have often felt moved to do so though.

Having recently got my own dear Dad home from a month long stay in hospital this is all too real for me – but brilliantly so Rosie. I love old people too and spent time speaking to the other old chaps who were in the same ward as Dad. Some of them never get any visitors – made me cry thinking of them all alone. These drawings moved me beyond words.

Thank you Lynn. Some of the old chaps in there are so elderly that they’ve lost most of their friends – so sad.

Thanks Helen. I don’t want to shy away from what’s real.
