I did these three studies a while ago. I wanted to try out different approaches with the same approach, so I did one with compressed charcoal (it’s quite choppy); two with ink and pen, one right handed and one left. The two done with my right (normal) hand are a better likeness but there’s a liveliness to the left-handed sketch that I don’t get with my normal hand.

I really like all three of these sketches but I think my favourite is the charcoal. I love that you have created such a strong face with just some blocky marks of charcoal.
The charcoal sketch looks more masculine whilst your left hand one more feminine. Very interesting to see the sketches of one person done three ways.
Thanks. I prefer the charcoal too. I don’t often work with it though.
