Life drawing tonight – really lovely pose except for the hands! I tried to draw them twice and they ended up looking like one good hand with a couple of sausages attached. Floppy sausages. With nails. aaaaarrrggghhhh! So frustrating. The other pose was nice too – some severe foreshortening – love it.
I used a dip pen with Indian ink and an ink wash with sable brush into an A3 cartridge sketchbook.

I know what ya mean about getting hands right. It can make or break a drawing. That’s why I prefer drawing amputees.

yes i agree with alli, it helps to draw the mitten first. I have a problem with claw fingers as opposed to sausage fingers
Mittens it is then. And it rhymes with kittens too 🙂
The “mitten” approach to hands can sometimes be helpful. Just get the general shape (as in a hand covered in a mitten) and then fill in the fingers appropriately. Don’t know if this will work for you, but it’s often “recommended” 🙂
