During last week’s life drawing session at Swansea Print Workshop, I took photos of the development of my portrait head of our model. It shows the drawing in different stages of development. I used conté crayon in white, sanguine and black into an A2 brown paper sketchbook.

I love working with white paint to rough in my images. For some reason, it makes me more confident about my drawing ability.
I am working on a painting now for myself that is a portrait of several of my cats, and, probably the two parrots.
It has been languishing for years..
Sadly, I am working on it again, because my baby cat, Clark, was just diagnosed with cancer. I am bereft.
One of the image is already on the canvas. A roughed in head of a passed cat, Derek. Fortunately, I had the sense to leave it in the semi unfinished state. It is more accurate as a portrait and captures his spirit. Some of the images will probably have a higher degree of usual finish. I just need to satisfy my self.
Too sick to paint right now. I did some sketching of Clark and James Lee cat. Designing the composition, which I am pleased with. Art helps.
So very sorry about little Clark, it’s so awful when our companions are ill. I hope you are feeling better soon Judith xxx
