Post-Muckiness….

Just spent a happy couple of hours at the fabulous Wingtip Press in Boise, Idaho, proof printing some little Lino blocks I cut from drawings of Snake River petroglyphs.

Here are the blocks inked and raring to go onto the press. It is their destiny.

And here is my little set of four petroglyphs…….

I used a water-based ink for the first time, Akua intaglio carbon black and I’m very impressed with the result and the ease of inking and cleaning, so I’m going to track some down when I get back to Blighty.

I'm an artist / printmaker / scribbler. I love drawing and all the geeky stuff associated with printmaking, working in a figurative style. I live in Wales with husband and demented cats. And my real name is Rose Davies :D

  1. Hi! Looks like a very successful trip! Glad you enjoyed the wide open spaces. And pulled pork.
I have a question. Looking at the press set-up for the lino, I was flummoxed.
I print lino. I really don’t understand the value in using what appears to be rails made of lino on either side of the block. I print and register my paper-usually Rives B.F.K., printed dry. I place the inked plate face down onto the paper. Usually the first print is a discard, due to uneven inking-then I just re-roll and print to my heart’s content.
Why print lino face-up? Seems complicated, with more chances of smudges and such.

    1. Hi. I guess it’s the way you’ve been taught. I’ve always done it that way. I used the rails because the press is a bit of a prima Donna and wouldn’t roll without them.
