Here’s a small edition of 6 drypoint intaglio prints I did today, based on a sketch I did recently of Jimmy the tortoise. Apparently the collective noun for tortoises is a ‘creep’. I think it refers to their way of walking; not a slur on their character 🙂
I used a paper drypoint plate, printed with drypoint etching ink in shop black onto handmade paper with a beige handmade fibre paper for the chine colle.
Thanks for letting me camp out in your blog for a little while today. I had a great time and tried to leave my campsite as good as when I arrived. I’ll be back!
You’re very welcome. I’m glad you had fun 🙂
It’s an additional paper added to the print while printing.
These are beautiful.
Thank you 🙂
Looks great. But yes, wha is a china colle?
Thanks. It comes from the French for ‘collaged tissue’.
Thank you for the declaration. 🙂
How do you get an aquatint on a paper drypoint plate?
I didn’t, it’s all cross hatching. The brown area is chine colle – a handmade tissue. Any other shading is from ink left on the plate – I don’t wipe much.
What’s a chine colle?
Tissue paper that is stuck on (collaged) before the print is made; it’s a way of adding a different colour or texture.
