The Dog Had A Bath

14 Aug

The dog had a bath and now she’s running around like a maniac! Husb and I are dog-sitting while her people are on holiday. She’s a Pomerpoo – a Pomeranian / Toy Poodle cross – very small with lots of black fluffy fur. When we bathed her it stuck up all over the place. She’s not too pleased about it. Sparta Puss thinks it’s quite funny though.

Sparta 2018

I sleep sandwiched between Husb on one side of me and Sparta Puss on the other, which is normally OK but last night they ganged up on me. Husb got up for a toilet visit at 4am and Sparta Puss decided to follow him, because like many cats she thinks it’s her duty to accompany her trained monkeys to the loo. She took the shortest route, which was across my chest and throat. She’s no lightweight. I’m a very light sleeper and they woke me up. Then they came back to bed and dozed off straight away. I lay tossing and turning until the alarm went off. This is my life!

The drawing is of Husb snoozing with his late cat, Little Ming.

Drawing Black

Drawing black is hard. So is drawing animals, well for me anyway. I’m pretty good at drawing cats now as I’ve had decades of practice and they tend to keep still. I haven’t quite got dogs though. Husb and I are puppy-sitting for a week, a little black Pomerpoo (Pomeranian Poodle cross). She has huge bat-like ears, big eyes and jet black silky fur, apart for a tiny smudge of white on her chin. I had a go this evening on my Samsung Galaxy Note 8 tablet using a free Markers app. I put in a dark grey ground to start with, then worked in light and dark on top with a variety of different digital brushes. Most of what’s black actually looks grey, silver or white when you analyse it. I drew from a photo, she’s far too excitable to pose for me.

Daisy Dawg

Greetings apes. Sparta Puss here. The she-monkey that I share my house with has been cheating on me with a dog called Daisy. A DOG! They’re as smelly as apes and even more stupid.

Home Comfort

21 Mar

Sparta 2018

In times of stress and worry, I retreat into my home. It’s my cave, my fortress, my refuge and my comfort. I close the door on the bad old world outside and batten down the hatches to weather any storms that life throws at me. My chubby cat, Sparta Puss is an integral part of my home comfort. She sits and purrs and brings a feeling of peace and calm and normality.

I work part-time for the homelessness charity, Crisis, as a fine art tutor and I really appreciate how lucky I am to be able to go to my own home which is safe and secure and warm and dry. I am lucky that I don’t have to endure living in a war zone or a refugee camp. The insecurity and stress of not having anywhere to call your own, not being able to close your door onto the outside world and feel safe, it is awful.

The Cat Sat On The Cupboard

Still tired and not done any new art this week, so here’s one from the archives (that’s a posh way of saying the big cupboard upstairs that my sketchbooks are in). Here’s Sparta Puss hanging out on top of a cupboard, likes cats do. Sparta is a naughty Tortie. A very naughty Tortie.

Normal Service Will Resume Soon …..

It’s been a very busy, frantic, few weeks and I’m really tired so haven’t done any artwork, not even a quick scribble, for a couple of days, so here’s a sleeping cat. Normal service will resume soon 🙂

And A Little Bit More Colouring In

9 Feb

I’m having fun colouring in my sketchbook drawings. I’ve been scanning them into my Samsung Galaxy Note 8 and using an app called Markers to colour them in. It’s like being a kid again, I used to love colouring. This is Sparta Puss, she’s used to taking over whatever piece of furniture takes her fancy. This was my chair. It isn’t any more.

More Colouring In

7 Feb

I had fun yesterday digitally colouring in a line drawing, so I did another today. It’s an old drawing of our little Ming The Merciless who died last month, aged nearly 18. She always liked to sleep on top of the biggest pile of cushions and I used to stack them on top of a large pouffé next to the radiator. Maybe she was just a little bit spoiled. Just a little bit. I downloaded the drawing into a free Markers app on my Samsung Galaxy Note 8 tablet to colour it in. There are more sophisticated drawing apps, but I’m too miserly to pay for them.

Colouring In

I draw into my sketchbook almost daily but rarely do anything with the drawings, I don’t know why, it just doesn’t occur to me. So this evening I uploaded yesterday’s sketch into the free Markers app on my Samsung Galaxy Note 8 tablet and did some colouring in. It’s not great art but it was nice and relaxing.
