Crafty Cat

27 Mar

Sometimes I want to do something, keep my hands occupied, but I’m arted out, so I settle down to do a bit of crafting. Art is hard work for me, crafting, like baking, is very relaxing. I made a stack of origami lilies which will end up on a string of LED lights as fairy lights. I got the instructions from the new BBC series, MAKE! Craft Britain where this guy demonstrated a couple of different origami models. Just after I photographed them, Sparta Puss threw them on the floor. Because that’s what cats do.

Home Comfort

Sparta 2018

In times of stress and worry, I retreat into my home. It’s my cave, my fortress, my refuge and my comfort. I close the door on the bad old world outside and batten down the hatches to weather any storms that life throws at me. My chubby cat, Sparta Puss is an integral part of my home comfort. She sits and purrs and brings a feeling of peace and calm and normality.

I work part-time for the homelessness charity, Crisis, as a fine art tutor and I really appreciate how lucky I am to be able to go to my own home which is safe and secure and warm and dry. I am lucky that I don’t have to endure living in a war zone or a refugee camp. The insecurity and stress of not having anywhere to call your own, not being able to close your door onto the outside world and feel safe, it is awful.

The Cat Sat On The Cupboard

Still tired and not done any new art this week, so here’s one from the archives (that’s a posh way of saying the big cupboard upstairs that my sketchbooks are in). Here’s Sparta Puss hanging out on top of a cupboard, likes cats do. Sparta is a naughty Tortie. A very naughty Tortie.

Merry Spartapuss

Sparta snowflake

Greetings hairless apes. Sparta Puss here.  I managed to get my paws on the pooter when the bald monkeys were not looking. The male monkey drew me with his little tiny pooter box and the she-Simian added some snowflakes. It’s that time of year again when the monkeys send greetings to each other and what could be better than an annoyed kitty?  The apes brought me some special snacks and treats and I’m going off to eat them. So Merry Spartapuss one and all.

Greetings Hoomins

Greetings Hoomins. Sparta Puss here. The hairless apes have put their pooters down for a few minutes and I have been browsing the Internet. I have made friends with a cat on Twitter. His name is Terry Barlow ( @terry_barlow ) and he has to put up with living in a house with a baldape too. Earlier, the she-monkey drew me on her mini-pooter, she calls it Samsung – who gives a pooter a name? I ask you!!!!! Anyway, she told me to stay still, so I didn’t. In fact I turned my back on her. So she moved. So I turned round again. So she moved again. And again. And again. And now she blames me because her drawing doesn’t look like me. Cheek! She’s an idiot.

I must go and eat the spider that’s running across the floor. It has been annoying me all day and now its end has come.

More Quick Kitty Scribbles……

15 Sep

Still have a rotten cold, sucking on throat sweets and still don’t feel like doing much art so here’s another kitty scribble, done quickly on my Samsung Galaxy Note 8 tablet using a free app called Markers. It’s a basic app but that’s what I want, I prefer to focus on doing the drawing rather than playing with the bells and whistles of an expensive and expansive art app. You have to put in a background before doing the drawing or it all goes a bit skewiff but apart from that, it’s a pretty good app.

A lot of my artwork is available on my Artfinder gallery.  If you’d like to have a look, please click on the image below or the Artfinder link at the top right of this page.

Just a quick digital scribble of Sparta Puss this evening. I seem to have a cold coming on so all I want to do is curl up in a blanket on the settee and have an early night. This is done in a free app called Markers on my Samsung Galaxy Note 8 tablet.

Richard just had a bath

Parrot With Attitude! Richard The Bird has been back with us for a few days while his humans have been on holiday. He bit me. He nipped the cat. He aimed poop out of his cage onto the floor with unerring accuracy. He took a dump over Husb’s favourite dressing gown. He screamed blue murder when we had chips until I gave him one. He has been totally disruptive, anarchic and brimming over with parrotitude for 5 days. I still love him though.

Richard the bird

Richard is a Senegal parrot and a beloved family pet, about five years old and due to unfortunate circumstances through no fault of anyone, is now on his fourth and hopefully forever home. He takes his holidays with us. He returns home frisky and refreshed. Can’t say the same about us. Sparta Puss and Ming the Merciless are glad to see the back of him.

Puss ‘n’ Boots

Spent a lot of today using the Columbian press at Swansea Print Workshop and then went visiting family. When I got home, I didn’t have much time so I scribbled a quick sketch, just a few minutes, into my little A5 Peter Pauper Press sketchbook. I sketched my boot and my cat, Sparta Puss.

Cross And Purring

30 Nov

cross and purring

How can a cat look so cross and be purring at the same time? Husb and I went to see ‘Legend’, the new film about the Kray twins, this evening and when we got back, this is what greeted us. Sparta Puss looking furious but also purring like a train. I think she was really annoyed because we’d gone out for a couple of hours and weren’t there to pay her loads of attention but she was also glad to see us, well me as she seems quite hostile to all other life forms……

I had a quick scribble with my Faber Castell Pitt pen, size S, into my A5 “The Cat’s Meow Journal”. It took a couple of minutes. Sometimes the way cats sit, they look a bit like a Batman mask.

The film is excellent, gripping and so well acted. Tom Hardy, who played the twins, was absolutely brilliant. We saw it in our local independent cinema at the Taliesin Arts Centre. It’s a great venue, much nicer than the multiplex chains.
