My cat, Sparta Puss, has taken my laptop tray away from me. It’s one of those trays with a beanbag underneath and I left it hanging around with the beanbag side up one day recently, and since then it’s been hers! Here it is scribbled into my little notebook by Peter Pauper Press.

Goodbye Little Friend
8 Jan
Our scruffy little cat, Ming the Merciless, had her final visit to the vet today. She’s been poorly for a while now and Husb had to make the decision to let her go.
We rescued Ming when she was just a tiny, starving scrap about 10 months old. She was extremely ill from neglect and after 4 nights at the vet’s hospital, touch and go, we brought her home and she promptly went to sleep stretched along Husb’s legs. We had three older cats and she was very scared and reacting aggressively with them but she obviously felt secure when she was with Husb. We had her for 17 years and up until quite recently she still cwtched up to him on the settee. They were pretty much inseparable and she brought so much fun into our house, it was worth all the effort to save her. Her illness left her with weak lungs and one eye and we were lucky to have her for so long.

A Quick Digital Kitty
3 Jan
I’m still stuck in that state of post holiday lethargy and to be honest didn’t fancy doing any drawing today but it’s important for my artistic practice that I do, so I took the easy way out and grabbed my Samsung Galaxy Note 8 tablet and did a quick digital sketch of Sparta Puss who is sparked out at my side. She’s even more lethargic than I am.
I use an app called Markers which is free to download and I drew it using a stylus – you get a different effect if you use your finger. I started by blocking out the background in black, then overlaid with white and tones of orange.

Greetings Hoomins
23 Sep
Greetings Hoomins. Sparta Puss here. The hairless apes have put their pooters down for a few minutes and I have been browsing the Internet. I have made friends with a cat on Twitter. His name is Terry Barlow ( @terry_barlow ) and he has to put up with living in a house with a baldape too. Earlier, the she-monkey drew me on her mini-pooter, she calls it Samsung – who gives a pooter a name? I ask you!!!!! Anyway, she told me to stay still, so I didn’t. In fact I turned my back on her. So she moved. So I turned round again. So she moved again. And again. And again. And now she blames me because her drawing doesn’t look like me. Cheek! She’s an idiot.
I must go and eat the spider that’s running across the floor. It has been annoying me all day and now its end has come.

More Quick Kitty Scribbles……
15 Sep
Still have a rotten cold, sucking on throat sweets and still don’t feel like doing much art so here’s another kitty scribble, done quickly on my Samsung Galaxy Note 8 tablet using a free app called Markers. It’s a basic app but that’s what I want, I prefer to focus on doing the drawing rather than playing with the bells and whistles of an expensive and expansive art app. You have to put in a background before doing the drawing or it all goes a bit skewiff but apart from that, it’s a pretty good app.
A lot of my artwork is available on my Artfinder gallery. If you’d like to have a look, please click on the image below or the Artfinder link at the top right of this page.

Quick Kitty Scribbles
14 Sep
Just a quick digital scribble of Sparta Puss this evening. I seem to have a cold coming on so all I want to do is curl up in a blanket on the settee and have an early night. This is done in a free app called Markers on my Samsung Galaxy Note 8 tablet.
A lot of my artwork is available on my Artfinder gallery. If you’d like to have a look, please click on the image below or the Artfinder link at the top right of this page.

KITTENS!!!!
7 Sep
Kittens! No art. How can I make art with kittens around? We’re looking after two little kittens for some friends while they’re away for the weekend. They’re brothers and a cross between a common-or-garden tabby and a Bengal. Half exotic and all fluff, energy and cuteness overload. Except when they’re running across the computer keyboard when I’m trying to blog. And stealing my pen.
A lot of my artwork is available on my Artfinder gallery. If you’d like to have a look, please click on the image below or the Artfinder link at the top right of this page.

PsychedeliCat 2
7 Aug
Not quite as psychedelic as yesterday’s PsychedeliCat but still pretty colourful. I have a miserable summer cold and my brain has turned into cotton wool so I’m entertaining myself doing little pencil drawings of cats onto my Waterford watercolour block and colouring them in with Winsor & Newton half pan watercolours. I’ll get back to some serious work when I shake off this rotten cold.
I am putting my series of drawings of ancient Welsh monuments on Artfinder. If you’d like to see them, please click on the image below or the Artfinder link at the top right of this page.

PsychedeliCat
6 Aug
I did a small drawing in pencil of this cat back in December, onto my Saunders Waterford watercolour paper block, and have only just now got round to painting it. I can’t move onto the next sheet of paper because it’s one of those glued blocks so I have to finish everything on it before peeling it off and starting the next one.
I don’t want to do a realistic painting. I was a child back in the 1960s and loved the psychedelic art around at that time. I have a few of these cat drawings to paint so I’m going to make them all psychedelicats. I’m using Winsor & Newton half pans.
I am putting my series of drawings of ancient Welsh monuments on Artfinder. If you want to buy one, you can see them by clicking on the image below or the Artfinder link at the top right of this page.

Violent When Brushed
10 Jul
I did a quick scribble this evening into my tiny A7 size sketchbook with a biro (ballpoint) pen. It’s been a busy day; I went to Cardiff on the bus for two meetings with fellow artists, planning arty collaborations, and then I got travel sick on the way home. Not nice. So I’ve only just felt like having a scribble. Here she is, the scruffiest of cats, Ming The Merciless showing her best side. She’s brushed every night, despite being seriously violent, but she is always a total scruff. Bit like me really. Although I’m not violent when I’m brushed. Well, not often.
For a limited period I am putting a new drawing from my recent sketch books on my Artfinder gallery every day. If you’d like to check them out, please click on the image below or the Artfinder link at the top right of this page.

Inspired by drawings of the taxidermy collection at Swansea Museum. I have given these antique artefacts a modern twist by combining them with images of rubbish – old fruit nets, bubble wrap and plastic – highlighting the problem of human pollution and how it affects wildlife.
