And Still They Keep Coming…..

The Baby Boomers. I’m lucky that so many have volunteered, and keep volunteering, to sit for me in my creative urge to draw one hundred people of my generation before the end of the year. We’re a massive generation, that’s why we’re called boomers, or sometimes ‘the bulge’, we’re a great big lump moving through time. The best bit about doing these drawings is meeting and talking with people, seeing what they think is good and bad about being a Boomer, what is iconic for our generation. I’m drawing with graphite sticks into my A4 hardbacked, spiral bound sketchbook and doing the sketches in under 30 minutes, capturing an essence rather than the detail of each person.

Over the last seven months, I have been travelling across South Wales with Rhondda-born archaeologist Dewi Bowen and Swansea film maker Melvyn Williams in all weathers with my portable drawing board, portfolio of Fabriano paper and a bag full of assorted artist’s materials to draw our ancient heritage.  Dewi is researching his latest book on Neolithic monuments and Melvyn is making a documentary film of our literary and artistic adventures.

I’ve done around 50 drawings now and these will be exhibited in my solo show in The Worker’s Gallery in the Rhondda Valley in September. Please click here to find out more about it.
