Angels Are…Renaissance:1

Carrying on with my practical research into images of angels throughout art history, I made a start on Renaissance angel sculptures. I began by sketching out the basic composition with a charcoal pencil and then firmed up the details with my home-made walnut ink and a fine Escoda brush. Finally, I put in some highlights and details with Liquitex white ink. The paper is the back of a recycled print coated with acrylic screenprint ink. The series of sculptures I’m working from are specifically Avenging Angels who carry weapons and unlike the Byzantine angels, don’t have halos.

I’m doing an artist residency in Urban HQ, 37 Orchard St, Swansea SA1 5AJ throughout November, developing ideas on the theme of Angels. Please drop by if you’re in the city, there’s a lovely café there too.

I'm an artist / printmaker / scribbler. I love drawing and all the geeky stuff associated with printmaking, working in a figurative style. I live in Wales with husband and demented cats. And my real name is Rose Davies :D
