I finished cutting a little lino block and made a start on a second. The one that’s finished, I’ve stuck to a commercial handle to make it into a stamp. I got the handle when I visited Berlin a couple of years ago, from the Modulor store. They’re really neat, relatively cheap and available over the Internet here.
Here’s a better view of it…..
Rose’ Is the lino just like the lino we had on our floors when we were children or is it a sort of craft shop thing? Also what happens if you make a mistake or does that depend on how bad it is whether it can be incorporated into the design?
Hi Helen. Yes, it’s like old fashioned linoleum with hessian on the back. It’s made with linseed oil which is antiseptic which is why hospitals years ago had lino on the floors. It’s very expensive to have your floor done in lino these days and mostly it’s now made as an art material. Mistakes either have to be incorporated or you have to start all over again – nerve wracking!
Oh ! I didn’t know that about lino. how interesting and thanks for taking the time to answer. 🙂
You’re welcome. A colleague had a lino floor laid in her kitchen and they POURED it, made it on the spot. It’s really lovely but very expensive.
Wow !
