Even More BIG. A daily drawing blog.

Another day at the Creative Bubble artspace in the city centre and I carried on drawing big. I’m trying to push out of my comfort zone which is minimalist line drawing, preferably small and with a fine pen. So here I am for a few days drawing very big with chalk and charcoal onto sheetsContinue reading “Even More BIG. A daily drawing blog.”

Scribbly Male Nude

Another of the life drawings I did last week. I got really free with the scribbling on this one and had a bit of a play. That’s one good thing about going digital, you don’t get precious about wasting paper and drawing materials because you can just wipe the screen and start again with noContinue reading “Scribbly Male Nude”

An Older Male Model

Just back from life drawing at Swansea Print Workshop, working this evening with an older male model. I drew with my Samsung Galaxy Note 8.0 and a free Markers app. This is a quite long pose, almost an hour, but I didn’t really get into the zone this evening. Still, it’s good to practice andContinue reading “An Older Male Model”

Indulging Myself

Just back from life drawing at Swansea Print Workshop. I really like this model because he’s as thin as Egon Schiele’s models and I came all over German Expressionist. We had one of the spotlights on so I was able to indulge myself with some chiaroscuro. I also love extreme foreshortening like this. Great eveningContinue reading “Indulging Myself”

Some Days You Got It…..

…..and some days you don’t. And I just couldn’t get a handle on life drawing tonight at Swansea Print Workshop, so I switched from the full figure to a portrait, which worked better. This first figure was a fairly quick pose, about 10 minutes. There was a high spotlight on the model, throwing strong shadows,Continue reading “Some Days You Got It…..”

Just a Quickie

Just a quickie, just got back from life drawing at Swansea Print Workshop and it’s late – and cold. I did some 5 minute poses, all on one sheet, in graphite and conte crayon. And I also did a one=hour pose onto a canvas sheet, gessoed in white and primed with rhodamine red litho/relief inkContinue reading “Just a Quickie”

Squished Man

Went to life drawing at Swansea Print Workshop last night and our model did a great recliner pose. I love drawing foreshortening because I really like weird stuff. Our model, Ben, looks squished in my drawing but I kept checking and measuring so it’s reasonably accurate. Just weird. I used my Samsung Galaxy tablet withContinue reading “Squished Man”

Man On Floor

Does what it says on the tin. A man. On the floor. Just got back from life drawing group this evening, at Swansea Print Workshop, and had a terrific pose to draw, with difficult angles, perspective and foreshortening. Lovely. I’m a bit of a masochistic scribbler. The workshop has strong spotlights that give good chiaroscuroContinue reading “Man On Floor”
