Blobs And Scribbles And A Milestone

9 Oct

Here’s a second head study I did at Swansea Print Workshop’s life drawing session this week. It was the last sketch of the evening and I did it in about 10 minutes. I think it’s my favourite from the night because it was so quick, more lively than the ones I concentrated on. I used my Samsung Galaxy Note 8 with a free Markers app, putting in a dark ground to start with. I used my fingertips a lot instead of the stylus, it goes blobby and I like it.

Oh and yesterday’s post was number 1,500! That’s in just over 4 years. I’m really pleased I’ve had the discipline to do it and thank you for reading them 😀 x

An Older Woman (Female Nude)

8 Mar

I like to work with this older model at life drawing group at Swansea Print Workshop. She is covered with blue tattoos of plants and animals that belong to the food chain; ants and flies run all over her body, chased by lizards and they swarm over her shoulders into carnivorous pitcher plants. She is very voluptuous, which is great to draw. I used my Samsung Galaxy Note and a free Markers app and it took about 45 minutes. The advantage of a digital drawing is that you can save reguarly and turn it into a slideshow which tracks the development of the drawing.

And another life drawing from this week’s session – I was on a roll! I sat up on the plans chest for this one, looking from above and from a fairly acute angle to my left. The model was sitting on a small chair and his right foot was bent in a very awkward way, but it didn’t seem to bother him, he kept at it for an hour. Models are amazing, they’re not given the recognition they deserve IMHO.

Dolby And Proud

1374613631286Finally got to see the new Star Trek film this evening and it was brilliant. People like me are known as Dolbies, we stay to the bitter end, watching all the credits. I prefer the word Geeks  lol. I like to spot interesting sounding jobs and find out what they are. Today it was the Greens Supervisor, which is something to do with Green screen work.

I’m still playing with the new tablet. I don’t think it’ll replace ‘proper’ drawing for me, but I often have to do some design work to feed into my printmaking and that’s what I’ve been doing today, doing lots of sketches of hearts that will be used in a monotype I’ll be doing tomorrow.

The app is Magic Marker which is very basic and doesn’t seem to have a wide range of colours but it’s okay for drafting up some basic designs and it’s helping me to get used to using the tablet.
