Once Upon A Time…

Way back in 2007, Husb and I went on a two week trip to Pakistan, travelling across the country with a group of Welsh, Danish and Pakistani companions in a large minibus. It was truly magical. Here are a few of the sketchbook drawings I did when we were up in the mountains in theContinue reading “Once Upon A Time…”

Sketchbook Archives: 55

Looking back at sketchbooks from February 2015 and I took a walk on the beach, visited a hospital and a couple of cafés, and hung out at an art gallery opening. I’ll be running a weekend linocut course based on Dewi Bowen and Olwyn Pritchard’s book, “Hunting The Wild Megalith” on February 28th and MarchContinue reading “Sketchbook Archives: 55”

Cornflour And Vinyl

I carved a few small vinyl blocks today, based on my field drawings a few years back when I travelled around South Wales with pre-historian Dewi Bowen and film-maker Melvyn Williams. Dewi was researching his book, “Hunting the Wild Megalith“. I used cornflour sprinkled onto the blocks today, to get an idea of the carvingContinue reading “Cornflour And Vinyl”

Portrait Drawing: Week 10

Last night was my 10th life drawing session since I started back at Swansea Print Workshop after a long break (see here) and here are the warm-up sketches. I’m aiming to improve my portrait drawing over the next year. There are two 5 minute sketches then a 15 minute one. I used a graphite block onto aContinue reading “Portrait Drawing: Week 10”

Sketchbook Archives: 54

Going back to February 2015 for these people pictures, mostly drawn in my sketchbooks, although the bottom left is on a piece of vintage paper that I marbled before drawing with charcoal. The sketches on the top left were done in minutes, those at centre left, done in seconds – really speedy. I love lookingContinue reading “Sketchbook Archives: 54”

Portrait Drawing: Week 9

Last week was the 9th session since I started back at life drawing at Swansea Print Workshop after a long break (see here) and here are the warm-up sketches. I’m aiming to improve my portrait drawing over the next year. The first is a 5 minute sketch, the second a 10 minute, using a graphite block ontoContinue reading “Portrait Drawing: Week 9”

The Piano Players

Husb and I went to a neighbour’s party a couple of days into the New Year, it was lovely. There was lots of live music and our hostess played the piano with her granddaughter and provided song-sheets for guests to sing along. Great fun. Lots of traditional carols and some rousing classics sung with gustoContinue reading “The Piano Players”

The First Of The New Year

Husb and I popped along to a neighbour’s party a couple of days into the New Year and the Ffynone Mari Lwyd arrived! So I had to have a scribble, didn’t I? She’s a particularly mischievous Mari Lwyd.

Sketchbook Archives: 53

Looking through my old sketchbooks, here are some random people scribbles from January 2015. I love to sit still and quietly sketch people going about their business, unaware that they’re being drawn.
