Over 20 of my linocuts are going to be featured in a new exhibition at The Workers Gallery in Ynyshir. It’s a group show, “Manifest” and my collection is called “Carving Heads And Other Creatures”. It’s mostly a new body of work which begins with drawing portraits, working with professional models at Swansea Print Workshop’sContinue reading “Coming Up…Carving Heads And Other Creatures”

Just Sitting And Sketching
Husb and I went to a barbecue at a lovely neighbour’s house yesterday evening: the weather was warm and gentle; the company lovely and cheerful; and there were many musicians making music. I sat quietly in a corner and sketched a bit while people listened to the music.
#Caturday – A Tiny Canvas: 4
It’s #Caturday Saturday and this little painting of our young rescue cat, Eric House-Tiger, is finished, ready to go off to be raffled in a community event locally. I used Unbleached Titanium, Raw Umber, Titanium White, Burnt Umber, Indian Yellow and Emerald Green Liquitex Heavy Body acrylic paint onto a 10 x 10 cms primedContinue reading “#Caturday – A Tiny Canvas: 4”
A Tiny Canvas: 3
Stage 3 of my tiny (10 x 10 cms) canvas painting of our young Tabby rescue, Eric House-Tiger, working in some finer details with Unbleached Titanium, Raw Umber, Titanium White and Emerald Green Liquitex Heavy Body acrylic paint. It’s a bit of whimsy that’s going to be donated for a raffle prize in a localContinue reading “A Tiny Canvas: 3”
A Tiny Canvas: 2
This is stage 2 of a tiny (10 x 10 cms) canvas painting I’m doing of our young Tabby rescue, Eric House-Tiger. I’m getting in some dark and mid-tones, and highlights using Raw Umber and Titanium White Liquitex heavy body acrylic paint. I’ve also blocked in the background with Indian Yellow, a colour I particularlyContinue reading “A Tiny Canvas: 2”
A Tiny Canvas
I’m doing a tiny (10 x 10 cms) canvas painting of Eric House-Tiger which I’m going to donate for a raffle prize in a local community event. This is the first stage, transfer the drawing and work over the lines with a thin later of transparent Raw Umber so I don’t smudge the pencil linesContinue reading “A Tiny Canvas”
Sketchbook Archives: 66
Back to October 2016 for this sketch archive. Technically not a sketchbook; I attended an event and took my drawing board and sheets of paper prepared with white gesso and my own home-made walnut husk ink. I really enjoy making art in public.
Life Drawing: A 60 Minute Portrait
I recently cut up a load of sheets of Bockingford paper that had failed prints on the back, and then I squeegeed the unprinted surface with left-over acrylic screen printing ink in a sort of grey-blue. I used a piece to do this portrait drawing with Caran d’Ache Neopastels. I kept the palette monochrome, IContinue reading “Life Drawing: A 60 Minute Portrait”
#Caturday Archives: 56
Here’s another little drawing of Sparta Puss from September 2017. I did a lot of sketching with a Markers app on my Samsung Galaxy Note 8 back then, until I got bored with it and went back to analogue. I’ve never gone back.
Life Drawing: Short Poses
Two of my latest sketches from this week’s life drawing session at Swansea Print Workshop. They are quick poses, one five minutes and the other 10. I used Caran d’Ache Neopastels onto vintage paper prepared with acrylic paint applied with a squeegee.
