February 2017 and I’m still in the drawing-portraits-on-brown-paper phase. I used black, brown and sanguine conté crayons and graphite. I’m not sure why I stopped – I really like the effect. I was working into a large (A2) brown paper sketchbook back in November 2016, using conté crayons in white, black and sanguine. I really like that combination of paper and drawing materials for doing portraits. These are professional life models at Swansea Print Workshop’s weekly life drawing group.

Life Drawing: Blocky Outlines
I tried something different with this pose, using solid blocks of colour and very thick outlines, trying out a different style. I used black, sanguine and white conté crayons onto a heavily textured re-used paper prepared with a green acrylic ground.
Life Drawing: Mirrored Pose
At the life drawing session last night at Swansea Print Workshop, we had two mirrored poses of 15 minutes each. I enjoy these, it’s interesting to draw the same pose from a different angle.
