Quietly Watching

I was sitting quietly, sipping coffee and watching others sitting quietly, sipping coffee and reading and writing, in Waterstones Café in Swansea. Ideal conditions for sketching people. So I did. Ballpoint pen into an A6 sketchbook.

Coffee And Scribbles

I had a nice cuppa coffee in Waterstones Café this afternoon and scribbled some of the other patrons as I sipped. I used to go regularly to the café before Covid, but the lockdown got me out of the habit, which is a pity because it’s a good place to sketch as people are usually absorbed inContinue reading “Coffee And Scribbles”

Sketchbook Archives: 49

Here’s a selection of scribbles from my sketchbooks in September 2014, I was busy out and about sketching that month. I must find more time to draw in public again.

The Quiet High Street

I had a nice cuppa tea in Waterstones Café this afternoon and watched people in the street below the first floor window. Not so long ago, this street was thronging with pedestrians but now hardly anyone passes by. It’s happening in city- and town centres across the country, as more people take up Internet shopping.Continue reading “The Quiet High Street”

Getting On A Bit

Here’s another scribble from to The Divine Comedy gig at Swansea Arena on Saturday evening. I sketched a couple of people after the support band, Studio Electrophonique. It was a seated gig but by the last quarter, most people were on their feet and dancing, with a crowd around the stage. The security staff looked slightly nervous butContinue reading “Getting On A Bit”

Wall-to-Wall Gen. X

Husb and I went to listen to The Divine Comedy at Swansea Arena last night. I got the tickets ages ago for his birthday so we’ve been waiting with anticipation since. We enjoyed the support band, Studio Electrophonique, and during the interval I sketched a couple of people in the audience. Then The Divine ComedyContinue reading “Wall-to-Wall Gen. X”

A Cyanotype Pigeon

A cyanotype pigeon because…well, why not? The original is a little sketch I did into my sketchbook. I scanned into my computer and reversed it into a negative in Adobe Photoshop. Then I printed it onto a sheet of acetate and used it to make the cyanotype in an exposure unit. I used Bockingford paperContinue reading “A Cyanotype Pigeon”

Through The Window: In The Bookshop Café

I scribbled this in Waterstone’s café earlier today. I managed to get a seat opposite the huge windows and sketched this figure slumped over his smartphone, with part of the new biophilic living building in the background.

Studying: In The Bookshop Café

Before Covid (remember those days?) I used to go regularly to Waterstones Bookshop café to sit and sketch as it was so peaceful. It’s taken me a long time to go back to some of my pre-Covid habits, but I hope to reinstate this one. I popped in there today for a coffee and aContinue reading “Studying: In The Bookshop Café”

Free Talks With The Friends.

At the Glynn Vivian Art Gallery again on Friday, for a really good talk about the origins of the Welsh Red Dragon, by Professor Helen Fulton. Of course, I had a scribble. The talks are supported by The Friends of the Glynn Vivian and are free. The next one is on Saturday October 4th byContinue reading “Free Talks With The Friends.”
