Reaching the end of last Thursday’s life drawing sesh at Swansea Print Workshop and I’m only just starting to get to grips with the new model. I keep drawing his eyes too close together, but the likeness improve with each sketch, as it should.

The Quick Poses…
The first 2 or 3 poses in a life drawing session are typically short, in our group we have 2 x 5 minutes and 1 x 10 minutes. When I was in Art College, when dinosaurs roamed the Earth, we started with 30 -second poses and worked up to 2 minutes! That was serious discipline.Continue reading “The Quick Poses…”
Portrait Drawing Week 3: No Bags And Wrinkles.
A couple of weeks ago I mentioned that I’m back at life drawing at Swansea Print Workshop after a long, long gap (see here) and I’m using these sessions to practice portrait drawing. I’ve set myself some goals and I’ll probably be doing this every Thursday evening for the next year or so. These areContinue reading “Portrait Drawing Week 3: No Bags And Wrinkles.”
Portrait Drawing: Week 2
A couple of weeks ago I mentioned that I’m back at life drawing after a long, long gap (see here) and I’m using these sessions to practice portrait drawing. I’ve set myself some goals and I’ll probably be doing this every Thursday evening for the next year or so. These are my sketches from weekContinue reading “Portrait Drawing: Week 2”
Got There In The End
Here are the final three sketches I did last week at life drawing group at Swansea Print Workshop. I’m going to be focusing on portrait drawing for the foreseeable future and I want to improve my technique to get an accurate likeness as quickly as I can. But for me, it still takes a while, sloggingContinue reading “Got There In The End”
Keeping At It
Here are the next 3 sketches from the life drawing session last night. I’m going to be focusing on portrait drawing for the foreseeable future and we had a long pose yesterday so I was able to get in a lot of practice. These are more accurate than the first three I did and IContinue reading “Keeping At It”
Portrait Drawing Week 1: Back In The Saddle
I took voluntary redundancy from my job last week, so this week I returned to the evening life drawing sessions at Swansea Print Workshop. I used to go regularly, for years, but as I grew older I found I was too tired after a working day and I’ve probably not been for about 4 years.Continue reading “Portrait Drawing Week 1: Back In The Saddle”
Rubbing The Cat With Graphite!
I carried on today with the miniprint design I started a few days ago, using my smallest Flexcut tools. I put a piece of tracing paper over the lino and rubbed it hard with graphite block to see if I’d cut away everything I wanted to. I also gave the lino block a rub with the graphite,Continue reading “Rubbing The Cat With Graphite!”
One Tarp, Two Leaves, Three Badges.
I’ve been doing some adult education sessions on Swansea’s Kilvey Hill, part of a creative partnership between Coed Lleol and Swansea Print Workshop. This is where I was working this morning, it’s lovely, even though the rain threatened, we had a big tarpaulin stretched over the work station. I was teaching the participants how toContinue reading “One Tarp, Two Leaves, Three Badges.”
Just Checking ….
Just doing a quick check on the carving so far, using good quality tracing paper and a block of graphite. It’s a bit rough and ready but gives me an idea about how much cutting I need to do on this woodblock. I started carving it as a demonstration piece on an adult education sessionContinue reading “Just Checking ….”
