Next week I’m exhibiting some work in Bath with an artist collective, Commensalis. I’m showing a group of drawings and photopolymer plate etchings based on the concept of Rinascere, which is an Italian word meaning ‘to be reborn’ or ‘to revive’. I chose it because I have been deliberately working with Renaissance techniques and materialsContinue reading “Renaissance In Bath”

Metal Man
I spent a couple of days invigilating the Twelve:34 exhibition at Fringe Arts Bath and I set up a small easel and used the time constructively to do some drawing. I rarely draw buildings so it was good discipline for me, although pretty tough, to spend several hours drawing an interior. It’s hard for meContinue reading “Metal Man”
Eff Ay Bee
I was invigilalting a group show that my work is in at Fringe Arts Bath, a FAB group of exhibitions scattered across 6 venues in the city. It’s the biggest event my work has been in – so far. But babysitting a show can get pretty boring, especially on a quiet day, so I turnedContinue reading “Eff Ay Bee”
Wriggly Little Sprog
Had a lovely couple of days visiting friends in Bath and had the opportunity to draw one of their gorgeous children. It’s good practice to draw kids, they look weird, funny big heads and chubby cheeks. This little one was squirming about on some cushions watching lid’s cartoons so I had to do speed drawing.Continue reading “Wriggly Little Sprog”
It’s FAB
I’m in Bath, invigilating an exhibition that I have some work in. It’s the 12:34 group show at FAB 3 in York Street, part of Fringe Arts Bath. I took a small easel and drawing materials to draw to pass the time. I don’t like drawing buildings, inside or out, but there wasn’t much elseContinue reading “It’s FAB”
Three in Bath…..
Today I was up in Bath with two other artists, filmaker Notsogreatdictator Smith and collagist Melanie Ezra, delivering some of our work to the Twelve:34 exhibition that will be a part of the Fringe Arts Bath event, opening this coming Friday evening. Here are two of my large ‘maniere noire’ drawings. If you’re in BathContinue reading “Three in Bath…..”
Pies And Leftovers
So we’ve taken down our exhibition in Bath and arrived home, very tired but not much time to rest because next thing is hanging the ‘Leftovers II’ miniature print exhibition that’s come over from the USA, from Wingtip Press in Boise, Idaho. The show opens Tuesday evening at Swansea Print Workshop (7pm if you’re inContinue reading “Pies And Leftovers”
Rain, Reflections And RSI
I was ‘babysitting’ our ‘Commensalis‘ exhibition in Bath on Thursday, sitting opposite one of the old chapel windows and looking at my reflection against the torrential rain outside. During the quieter moments I sketched what I could see. It wasn’t easy because the layers that you see in a reflection are all squashed together. DoesContinue reading “Rain, Reflections And RSI”
Friday The 13th!
I’m up in Bath and it’s a lovely morning, sun shining and birds singing. Poured down yesterday when I was invigilating our exhibition, Commensalis at Walcot Chapel, but I guess that encouraged people to come into the dry. I did this drawing from the inside looking out. Drawing architecture is challenging because I don’t wantContinue reading “Friday The 13th!”
Bath And Voyeurs
In between all the photopolymer [solar] plate etching over the last couple of weeks, I managed to proof three blocks I’d cut. They’re the first three of a series based on the concept of the artist as voyeur. I lean out of my second floor studio window and take surreptitious photos of people walking below,Continue reading “Bath And Voyeurs”
