Back in May 2013, I visited the USA to do a residency at Wingtip Press in Boise, Idaho. Here are some of my sketches from that visit. It was a fascinating journey, Idaho is the Wild West and the culture and geography are so different to the UK. I’m used to wet Wales and BoiseContinue reading “Sketchbook Archives: 27”

Sketchbook Archives: 26
Here are some heads from May 2013. Three are from my sketchbooks, one is charcoal over a discarded cyanotype print, one chalk over an ink splash, and one full colour monotype. I think I like drawing people’s faces more than any other thing.
On Its Way Out…
My poor old (as in very old) laptop is on its way out. I’m hoping to get another in the next couple of days but until then, my blog posts might be a bit all over the shop, so it’s pot luck. Here are some trees. I painted them from a sketch done on myContinue reading “On Its Way Out…”

Piggies! This fine beast is from my blog in April 2013. I visited a farm and drew some Mangalitza pigs. I really liked my sketch of the boar and turned it into a little lino cut.
The Last Hat.
The last sketch and last hat from the Imbolc gig. There seems to be a trend for hatted performers at the moment for some reason. This is a fine bit of headgear and thankfully this musician isn’t bearded or bespectacled so he was a bit easier to draw.
Just A Bandana.
I was scribbling at a gig recently and most of the performers had some sort of combination of hats, beards and spectacles, which I find quite hard to draw. But here’s a performer without any of them. But he had a bandana. First time I think I’ve drawn a bandana. But it was ok.
More Hats, Specs And Beards.
Some more little scribbles from the gig the other weekend at Imbolc. The three things I find hardest to draw in people…hats, specs and beards…all in one subject. Tough going especially as drawing live is quite difficult anyway, but really good practice.
Another Head, Another Hat.
More scribbling from me, done last Saturday, which was the ancient festival of Imbolc. A friend had his birthday party at the yacht club and there were loads of musicians. This young man in the snazzy hat played drums. I think that hats are hard to draw, but at least he didn’t have a beard orContinue reading “Another Head, Another Hat.”
Musical Pirates.
It was Imbolc last Saturday and Husb and I went to a gig celebrating not just Imbolc but also a friend’s birthday. He’s in a band of musical pirates called Band Bandanaars – see what they did there? Aaarrr. I scribbled the drummer because normally drummers are at the back and I can’t get aContinue reading “Musical Pirates.”
Scribbling At Imbolc.
Husb and I went to a gig last Saturday, February 1st, which is the ancient festival of Imbolc. Of course, I had to have a scribble. This singer-songwriter presented me with my triple challenge – a beard, a hat and a pair of spectacles. But it’s good practice.
