Here’s another blast from the past, from one of my old life drawing sketchbooks. I drew this beautiful model at Swansea Print Workshop’s Thursday life drawing group about 11 or 12 years ago. At the time I was going through a phase of sticking coloured papers onto the plain white sketchbook pages to add interest,Continue reading “An Old (Young) Head.”

An Old Head….
I’ve been looking through old work, it’s surprising how much I’d forgotten about. Here’s one from 2010. I was enjoying working with chalk and soft pastels onto dark papers back then, on a large scale, this is size A2.
Archive Life Drawing: 1
I’ve been browsing through some of my archives and seeing loads of work I’d forgotten about. This is from 10 years ago, working with an older male model, John. I went through a brief phase of drawing onto collaged paper and mixing up my drawing materials – charcoal, conte crayon and oil bars. I don’tContinue reading “Archive Life Drawing: 1”
#StandingStoneSunday 20
Here’s Maen Bradwen, or Carreg Bica on Mynydd Drummau Mountain in Neath Port Talbot. It’s a massive stone and local legend has it that it bathes in the River Neath / Afon Nedd on Easter morning. I did this while I was travelling around South Wales with filmmaker Melvyn Williams and prehistorian Dewi Bowen while he was researching material for his latestContinue reading “#StandingStoneSunday 20”

#StandingStoneSunday 18
It’s #StandingStoneSunday again and this huge megalith is the Brynmaen Stone on Brynmaen Farm in Carmarthenshire. It’s been six years since I visited with pre-historian Dewi Bowen and film maker Melvyn Williams – time flies by so fast! We travelled along the route of the legendary Boar Hunt, Y Twrch Trwyth, from the story of Culhwch andContinue reading “#StandingStoneSunday 18”
Still Scribbling….
Here’s another scribble sketch I did in last week’s life drawing session at Swansea Print Workshop. I’m keeping things simple for a while. A Chance To Own One Of My Artworks I have some small screenprints for sale, inspired by my drawings of the antique taxidermy collection at Swansea Museum. I have given these vintageContinue reading “Still Scribbling….”
A Scribbled Head
Here’s a scribbled head from last week’s life drawing session at Swansea Print Workshop. I’m using a large, A2, brown paper sketchbook and I’ve decided to push out of my comfort zone and try different techniques in my life drawings until the book is finished. A Chance To Own One Of My Artworks I haveContinue reading “A Scribbled Head”
The Scribbled Figure
I tried out a different approach to life drawing the other evening, at Swansea Print Workshop. I’m working into a large A2 size brown paper sketchbook with soft Rembrandt pastels. My drawings are usually quite representational but this time I loosened up and had a scribble. It made me look at the model in aContinue reading “The Scribbled Figure”
Simple And Symmetrical
Here’s one of the 30 minute poses I drew at life drawing last night. I really love this one, it’s all simple shapes and very symmetrical. I drew with conte crayons in black and sanguine onto some heavy paper that I had used for a monotype, but I didn’t like the way it turned out.Continue reading “Simple And Symmetrical”
