The Continuous Line.

Here’s another scribble from the gig that Husb and I went to over the weekend. I drew this lute player with the continuous line technique, not taking my pen off the paper. It gives an interesting dynamic to the sketch.

Five Hats, Three Specs and Two Beards.

Husb and I went to a lovely gig on Saturday night, down by the docks, some great musicians. Of course I had a scribble. This band is “Wild Eyed, Wicked and Oblivious” and they play a sort of Steampunky Folkrock, I love it. They are also quite flamboyant dressers. Now when you’re a scribbler likeContinue reading “Five Hats, Three Specs and Two Beards.”

A Bit Grinchy.

I haven’t posted for a couple of days because I went and did my back in on New Year’s Eve. OUCH! I’ve never had back pain before, what a shocker! It really stopped me in my tracks for 48 hours and it’s still a bit grinchy. Is that a technical term? 😀 That’s what itContinue reading “A Bit Grinchy.”

Heads And Carols.

Here are a few more heads I sketched at last week’s Christmas Carol and other music performance at The Westbourne pub. There was a great atmosphere with lots of audience participation. I scribbled these quickly with a borrowed Schneider pen, I forgot my usual ballpoint. It gives me a very different line, which took someContinue reading “Heads And Carols.”

Christmas Carols In The Pub.

I went to a nice festive do at a local pub just before Xmas, an evening of live acoustic music. Husb belongs to a choir, Cor Aderyn Du (the Blackbird Choir) who gave a rousing set of medieval carols and there were other performers too. Of course, I had to have a bit of aContinue reading “Christmas Carols In The Pub.”

Short Pants, Long Pants.

Husb and I went to a gig at Elysium on Samhain a few days ago, a mixture of performers, folk and metal, with a pagan theme. When I go to gigs, I often draw legs in the audience and I did at this one. Then it occurred to me that everyone was wearing long trousers.Continue reading “Short Pants, Long Pants.”

The Samhain Mask.

Husb and I went to a fab gig at Elysium last Friday. It was Samhain and we listened to a great line up of pagan-ish music. This guitarist with the most excellent band Adfeilion was wearing a terrific, and terrifying, animal skull mask. Of course I had to have a scribble. Adfeilion is a youngContinue reading “The Samhain Mask.”

Warming Up At The Gig.

Husb and I were at a gig at Elysium last night, an evening of pagan folk, rock and metal. Lovely. I had a scribble of course. I usually start by doing some quick sketches of the audience to warm up.

Trying Too Hard…

Sometimes I just try too hard and I end up with a drawing that is over-worked and without much life. This was a very striking woman in the audience at one of the music events at the recent Swansea Fringe, but because she was quite still, I worked too slowly and lost the spontaneity ofContinue reading “Trying Too Hard…”

The Quick Scribbles: 1

When I go into a venue to draw at a gig, I usually start off by scribbling a few quick sketches. It wakes up my muscle memory and I can check if I feel comfortable drawing in that position – is there enough space or am I being jostled? Is there somewhere to rest myContinue reading “The Quick Scribbles: 1”
