The Cook In

31 Jan

Such a busy day, I only had time for a few quick kitty scribbles this evening as Sparta Puss dozed at my feet. After shopping this morning at the excellent Uplands Market, Husb and I did a massive cook-in, making split pea and ham soup, tomato and vegetable soup, spelt and seeded bread, Seville orange and brandy marmalade and Cawl (a traditional Welsh lamb and vegetable stew). We made huge quantities to stock up the freezer and the preserves shelf in the pantry. And now I’m off to bed. Goodnight 😀

Black And White

Had a long day starting with the fabulous Uplands Market this morning then an exciting trip to Llanelli to buy jam pot covers because there don’t seem to be any on sale in Swansea followed by a workout on the beach at the open air gym and then up to the opening of the new Galerie Stephanie. And I made 4 jars of summer fruits in brandy.

I finally got time to do a sketch and as I want to focus on drawing heads for a couple of weeks, Husb had to do modelling duty. I’m trying out a different technique with the Samsung Galaxy Tablet Note 8, using the free Markers app. I’m laying down a dark grey background with a large soft brush then working over with white, black and greys, again with the large soft brush, adding fine linework at the end in black and white.

In Dylan’s Park

Had a lovely day, first at Uplands Outdoor Market, bought loads of wonderful local produce and some hand-made Xmas presents – result! Then picked up the little nephew and went to ‘A Child’s Mystical Xmas’ in Cwmdonkin Park.  It’s just around the corner from where Dylan Thomas grew up and he played in it throughout his childhood; it features in some of his work. The old bandstand has been turned into a very nice little cafe where we sat outside, it’s surprisingly warm, and had tea and Welsh cakes; I resisted the Christmas Pudding with Joe’s Icecream advertised on the chalkboard. I sketched the boy with his hot chocolate. He’s 9 now and his features are changing quickly, he doesn’t look so much like an alien and his nose is almost an adult shape.

Later on, we made lemon curd for more Xmas presents and Husb and the boy decorated the Xmas tree. Sparta the cat subverted them every step of the way. She’s delighted to have a tree to climb indoors 😦
