Branching Out…

Groan!!! Please pardon the awful pun! After drawing lots of small figures on big paper with two types of bamboo pen, I went out into the gardens at Atelier Werenzhaim and picked up some twigs (branching out – get it?). I chose one and dipped it into the pot of ink, emptied my mind andContinue reading “Branching Out…”

A Day Out In Mid Wales…

Husb and I went for a drive over the weekend and wound up in the little village of Llanddewi Brefi and then onto the small town of Tregaron. We stopped for a soft drink in a local pub and I drew this fantastic inglenook fireplace. The drawing of Husb is awful, he’s much better looking,Continue reading “A Day Out In Mid Wales…”

In These Stones…

A few years back, I worked with pre-historian Dewi Bowen and filmmaker Melvyn Williams on a series of drawings/paintings of ancient standing stones in South Wales. Stained-glass artist Deanne Mangold saw them and wanted to make some glass panels based on my originals. So she did. And now there’s enough to exhibit. Deanne and I,Continue reading “In These Stones…”

Sketchbook Archives: 6

I first posted these back in February 2012, although they weren’t all drawn then. I began blogging in July 2011 to post my sketchbook drawings, so I was picking out examples from sketchbooks going back years. Looks like I was going through a bit of a ‘still life’ phase.

Sketchbook Archives: 5

Back to January 2012, when I posted these to my blog. They weren’t all drawn then though. I started the blog in July 2011 to post my sketchbook drawings so I was choosing from several years worth of scribbles when I first began blogging.

Scribbling At The Steel Works…

Husb and I went to the demonstration to support industrial action at the TATA steelworks in Port Talbot, organised by the trade union, Unite. I sat down in the sunshine and had a scribble. There was a lot of red against the dark looming steelworks in the background.

A Short Film Of My Sketchbooks…

Husb made a short film of a lot of my sketchbook drawings. Many artists draw in sketchbooks but they’re rarely made public. So please have a look 😀

Just Checking ….

Just doing a quick check on the carving so far, using good quality tracing paper and a block of graphite. It’s a bit rough and ready but gives me an idea about how much cutting I need to do on this woodblock. I started carving it as a demonstration piece on an adult education sessionContinue reading “Just Checking ….”

Carving With Different Tools…

Carrying on carving my little piece of plywood. I like experimenting with my Flexcut tools. Some printmakers restrict themselves to a couple or three tools but I like to try them all out, they give interesting textures.

Drawing To Carving…

I sat on a bench on Kilvey Hill and did a very quick charcoal sketch of some trees. Then I redrew it onto a piece of plywood and started carving. Once the carving is finished, I’ll ink it and print it.
