August 2012 was a very good year for my sketches en plein air, it must have been good weather because I was out and about a lot. The first four drawings were at the Balloon Festival at Ashton Court in Bristol and the last one was on Swansea beach with Mumbles in the background.

Sketchbook Archives 14: The Hospital Visits.
2012 was a year of hospital visits with several very poorly elderly relatives. It was a chance to sit quietly and sketch. I met some great people on the ward, their faces full of character and experience. The drawing at bottom left is my young great-niece who was fascinated by the murmuration of starlings thatContinue reading “Sketchbook Archives 14: The Hospital Visits.”
Sketchbook Archives 13: They Don’t Stay Little!
Out and about, people watching and scribbling them into my sketchbook, from August 2012, about a year after I started this blog. They’re all drawings of Husb and family, and all the children are grown up now. They don’t stay little for long.

Buildings from the past, sketchbook drawings from July 2012, about a year after I started this blog. I used to do a lot more sketching en plein air, but that was before the Covid lockdowns. I’ve never really got back to that level since, I find I’m much less likely to go out and aboutContinue reading “Sketchbook Archives: 12”

Faces from the past, sketchbook drawings from July 2012, about a year after I started this blog. Husb and family feature in a few, and people out and about in cafes, with a couple of old friends. We’re all older now.
Sketchbook Archives: 10
These sketches were posted on my new-ish blog in June 2012. They’re quite a mix of where I was out and about around that time. There are some people dancing at a gig, a Big Issue seller and some shop security men on Swansea’s upper Oxford street. A friend washing up in his kitchen andContinue reading “Sketchbook Archives: 10”
Sketchbook Archives: 9
I posted these sketchbook scribbles less than a year after I started this blog, back in May 2012. Three of them are of a biker’s funeral at the local Gospel Hall, then there are random people and my little great-nephew, who is much bigger now and got married a few weeks ago.
A Short Film Of A Drawing.
Here is a short film (made by Husb) of a drawing I did on my recent residency in Germany during the first day in Berlin, before we went to the Atelier Werenzhain.
Muted.
I’ve been having some fun playing around with my little single figures, drawn in ink on my recent residency in Germany. I’ve been pushing them through Adobe Photoshop and experimenting with some very vibrant colour combinations. But this one here seemed to suit a muted effect. I put it into the “Torn Paper” filter andContinue reading “Muted.”
Feeling The Heat.
Another of my “Singleton” drawings, pushed through Adobe Photoshop gradient map. I like the heat of this colour combination, it makes the figure so different from the black and white original. I went to the artist residency with four other Welsh women artists, Chris Bird-Jones, Sarah Hopkins , Rhiannon Rees and Rhian Haf. We have been supported by Wales Arts International. WeContinue reading “Feeling The Heat.”
