Shady Lady

Just got back from life drawing at the most excellent Swansea Print Workshop and I’m cream-crackered. Here’s my shady lady, our retired biology teacher who also happens to be heavily tattooed with flies, spiders, lizards and carnivorous plants. I love drawing older models, so much character in their bodies. I drew with a dipContinue reading “Shady Lady”

First Proof

Been hacking away at a lump of old plywood for a couple of days and took a first proof of it today. I used Daler Rowney block printing medium mixed with Daler Rowney lamp black Georgian oil paint and took the print using a Japanese baren onto Fabriano Accademica 120 gsm paper. I Got More Wood…

I thought I’d do a series of male nudes – there are loads in my sketchbooksContinue reading “Another Man. Another Day.”

Aaarrgghhh! Hands!

Life drawing tonight – really lovely pose except for the hands! I tried to draw them twice and they ended up looking like one good hand with a couple of sausages attached. Floppy sausages. With nails. aaaaarrrggghhhh! So frustrating. The other pose was nice too – some severe foreshortening – love it. I usedContinue reading “Aaarrgghhh! Hands!”

W. I. P.

Here’s my latest work-in-progress; a manier noir drawing in graphite worked up from a drawing in my sketchbook. I get very dirty doing manier noir drawings and my studio is covered in a fine film of graphite and charcoal – hoovering on Monday then 😦 . This evening I went to the opening ofContinue reading “W.
