I’m making a drawing installation for the Commensalis collective’s new show which is opening at Fringe Arts Bath (FAB2014) next Friday. It’s made up of five sections and this is the first, a large drawing (about 150 x 200 cms) in carbon, graphite and charcoal. It’s based on drawings I’ve done from photographs taken duringContinue reading “Drawing A Big One”

New Homes
I’ve been collating the little pastel drawings I did into 2 Khadi handmade paper sketchbooks while I was travelling throught Pakistan and I’ve sprayed them with acrylic fixative to stop the fragile soft pastel from rubbing off the surfaces. I needed to raise some funding for my residency and before I went, I offered sketchbookContinue reading “New Homes”
Two More Mountains
I’ve been carrying on sorting through the pastel drawings I did on my recent residency in Pakistan, tidying some up and spraying them with fixative. Here are the last two of the mountain drawings. I did them with Daler Rowney soft pastels into my Khadi sketchbook. They were done very quickly on a car journeyContinue reading “Two More Mountains”
Preseli Rain
Husb and I set out from Swansea this morning to visit friends living in the Preseli Mountains in Pembrokeshire. It was a glorious warm, sunny day when we left but within a couple of hours of reaching the Preselis, we were hit by severe gales and torrential rain. We managed a quick walk before theContinue reading “Preseli Rain”
Mood And Mosquitos
I’ve been sorting through the stuff I brought home from my recent residency in Pakistan. I left some of my prints behind in an exhibition at the Satrang Gallery in Islamabad but I also did a lot of drawings and I’ve been photographing and cataloguing them. I did around half a dozen quick impressionisticContinue reading “Mood And Mosquitos”
Up The Mountains
Here are some more quick impressionistic landscape sketches that I did during my recent printmaking residency in Rawalpindi. We were travelling through the mountains outside Islamabad. I averaged about 6 minutes a sketch, using Daler Rowney soft pastels into my Khadi sketchbook. The residency was supported by Wales Arts International and Arts Council Wales

The Ghost And The Fishermen
I produced two new monotypes during my recent residency in Pakistan. The technique also gives a ghost image as well as a full-colour one. Impressionists such as Degas and Monet used to work over their ghost monotypes with pastels and if it’s good enough for them…… Here’s the ghost of ‘Footfall At Taxila’. I appliedContinue reading “The Ghost And The Fishermen”
Last Night In Islamabad
We went to a literary festival in Islamabad on our last evening and as usual, I had a scribble. I used my Samsung Galaxy Tablet Note 8 and saved the drawing regularly to show the different stages, using a free Markers app. This lady was sitting in front of us. My residency in the ZairaContinue reading “Last Night In Islamabad”
Coming Home……
So here I am at Kuwait Airport, having a cuppa tea on my way home from my printmaking residency in Rawalpindi, Pakistan. It seems like just a few days ago that I was sitting here on the way over, but it was almost a month. The time I spent there was so intense, so packed thatContinue reading “Coming Home……”
