Tube And Tate

Just back from a day trip to London to see the Paul Klee exhibition at Tate Modern. I had a bit of a scribble on the London Underground before the show. It’s difficult to look at someone like Klee with fresh eyes because he was so influential that his legacy is all around us inContinue reading “Tube And Tate”

Badgered!

I’ve had enough of hares and I’ve moved onto badgers. I very rarely draw animals, except cats, so it takes a while to get used to alien anatomy. Here are the first two sketches, trying to get to grips with the proportions and where different bits go. They have blocky little legs. By the thirdContinue reading “Badgered!”

Head Shot

Just got back from life drawing group at Swansea Print Workshop where I concentrated on doing a portrait. I’ve been doing life drawing and studying anatomy for decades but I don’t think I get enough practice with faces, so I’m going to focus on heads for a bit. This is a pretty good likeness. IContinue reading “Head Shot”

Bad Hare Day

Yesterday was a good hare day, today a bad hare day. The expression on the face is OK but the ears are WAY too small. Drawn into my A6 spotty sketchbook with Derwent pencils in B and 3B from a photograph. Oh well, can’t win ’em all. I’ve done enough hares now, so no moreContinue reading “Bad Hare Day”

Wild Scribbles

Day 2 at Creative Bubble and I carried on drawing large-scale studies of British wildlife for something I’m planning to do in coming weeks. Alongside the two hares I did yesterday I scribbled a hedgehog and badger. My drawing style changed slightly with each animal; quite jerky with the hares, spiky on the hedgehog andContinue reading “Wild Scribbles”

Hare Today

*Groan*. Another hare pun 🙂 . Today I was at the Creative Bubble artspace in the city centre, with my colleagues Sylvie Evans and Graham Parker from the 15 Hundred Lives art collective, running another of our monthly public art events. We were joined by guest artist Patricia McKenna-Jones. Using the theme ‘Recycle’ we reusedContinue reading “Hare Today”

Hare Raising

hmmmm how many puns about hares can I get away with? 🙂 I’m still practicing drawing hares, alternating between the Samsung Galaxy Tablet and pencils. Another day or two and I’ll move onto another animal. I visited the old Swansea Museum today. They have an exhibition on Alfred Wallace with some taxidermy including foxes andContinue reading “Hare Raising”

Harivariation

Practice makes perfect. So I’ve been drawing and redrawing the little hare from the digital drawing I did yesterday. I’m doing these in Reeves pencils, B and 3B into my new little spotty sketchbook. It’s size A6 and my chum and fellow blogger, Melanie Ezra, brought it back from New York City for me. HereContinue reading “Harivariation”

Here’s A Hare

I’ll be working on British wild animals for a while; I’m not letting on why just yet,but expect more hares, some hedgehogs, badgers, foxes, red squirrels and maybe a Scottish lynx over the next couple of weeks. I’ll also be using my Samsung Galaxy Tablet to draw them,so I’ll be getting plenty of practice doing digital drawing.
