Sketchbook Archives: 48

Back in August 2014, I did a spate of formal portrait drawings with Faber Castell Pitt pens into my sketchbook. These are half hour poses and it was great to have such a selection of people to draw.

July 2014 wasn’t just a month of time spent on Swansea Beach. I also managed to scribble quite a few heads into my sketchbook. I never go back to these and use them in another way. I don’t know why not, other artists use their sketchbook drawings for new work. Maybe it’s something I shouldContinue reading “Faces In My Sketchbook Archives: 47”

More Drawing In Darkness.

Not the easiest thing to do, draw in the dark, but t’s very good discipline, makes you focus on what’s there in front of you, which isn’t much. This was at an illustrated talk by Andrew Renton at the Glynn Vivian Art Gallery yesterday, part of the excellent Tigers and Dragons exhibition. Doing My Scales…

A very quick scribble from the crowd at a recent gig at Elysium, just a minute or so, ballpoint pen into an A6 sketchbook (fits into my pocket). Working so quickly forces me to focus on the important features in front of me and not get distracted by detail. It’s good practice, like a singerContinue reading “Doing My Scales…”

Continuous Line…

Saw these two chatting in the Glynn Vivian Art Gallery the other day so I scribbled them! I used a continuous line technique which I find easier for working out perspective and scale. I used a black ballpoint pen into my A5 cloth-bound sketchbook.

Some scribbles out and about in January 2014. The colourful image bottom right is a reworking of an earlier sketch, I redrew it onto a digital transfer print.

More Gallery Bonces…

Here are a couple more heads from the Glynn Vivian Art Gallery at a recent talk about the late Welsh artist Esther Grainger by Andrew Green.
