I’m back from the artist residency in Boise, Idaho after a 28 hour journey. OOOOFFFF! I scribbled some of my travelling companions on my way there and back. This is a very nice, very elderly Indian lady who sat next to me on the plane from Heathrow to San Francisco. She slept for a lotContinue reading “Companions”

Scribbling USA
I came to Boise to collaborate with a group of artists to produce a body of monotypes and drawings, which we did, but I can’t resist the urge to scribble;it’s like scratching an itch. This is one I did of a grain elevator in Oregon. I’d never seen one before. It was huge. This isContinue reading “Scribbling USA”
Puddle Of Lard!
Insomnia hit me hard so I got up and do an early morning sketch in my teeny weeny leather bound steampunky sketchbook. We’re staying in one of those hotels like in the films where the room all open out onto a verandah on the outside. It’s nice sitting here with the door open to theContinue reading “Puddle Of Lard!”
ROAD TRIP!
Along the Oregon Trail from Boise, Idaho to Pendleton where we visited Crow’s Shadow Press and I experienced pulled pork in a Wild West Saloon bar. Here’s a little sketch of it. On the way here I saw amazing changes of vast landscapes and went into a casino. I came back out again pretty quickly,Continue reading “ROAD TRIP!”
Harleys And Petroglyphs
I realized today that I’m actually in the Wild West, taking a road trip to sketch in different parts of Idaho. First we went to Snake River! What a great name. We trekked through the fantastic desert landscape to find some ancient petroglyphs carved into 15,000 year old Bonneville Flood Melon Gravel boulders at CelebrationContinue reading “Harleys And Petroglyphs”
I think I’ve got it?!
Maybe. I’m using a Mac and I hate it! I’ll never slag off Bill Gates again! Here are the first drawings I did on my journey (I hope). There’s one of pigeons hanging out on a rooftop in Chepstow and the others are very quick sketches that I made as the bus to Heathrow wasContinue reading “I think I’ve got it?!”
Mad Old Bat
One thing this trip to Boise, Idaho has already taught me, Get Out OF The Dark Age! When it comes to IT I’m so used to faffing around with lots of, mostly, archaic technology that I’m used to. My mobile phone is a phone, my PCs and laptop are out of the Ark, but youContinue reading “Mad Old Bat”
Ciaou Miaou
Greetings bald monkeys. Sparta Puss here. I have taken control of the pooter box while the apes are out. It’s been a while. The monkeys play with their pooters all the time. Anyway, lots been happening since I last addressed you. I’ve been hunting loads of rats and bringing them in and throwing them atContinue reading “Ciaou Miaou”
Cutting The Pig
I haven’t been able to settle down to work on my large pieces of art because of this darn lurgi. So today I grabbed a little bit of lino, transferred a sketchbook drawing I made at the weekend of Arthur the Mangalitza boar and cut away. I’ll print the block in black next week.
The Bedroom Tax
People outside Britain might not have heard of this, but it’s a very unpopular and divisive new tax affecting the poorest people in society. If you are living in a public-sector home with more than one bedroom and receive welfare benefits you’ll lose at least 14% of your housing benefit. This is a significant amountContinue reading “The Bedroom Tax”
