Hungry Scribbles

18 Dec

It was the life drawing group’s annual Xmas curry last night at the excellent Vojon curry house. I had a Handi Lamb Polongwala with a Gobi Aloo – no rice or naan as I’m cutting back on refined carbs for a little while. I was still stuffed until lunchtime, a very late lunch too. Because there was a large group of us, we had to wait a while for our food, they cook everything fresh, so I did some quick scribbles to take my mind off the hunger pangs. The food was well worth waiting for though.

I used a Faber Castell Pitt drawing pen into my little Peter Pauper Press ‘Cat’s Meow Journal’. It’s a very sweet sketchbook, i really like it. Sparta Puss doesn’t seem too impressed though. She’s studiously ignoring it.

Quickie In The Curry House

8 Sep

A young relative did well in her recent G.C.S.Es and deserved a curry, so we went to our favourite curry house, the most excellent Vojon, and after took a spin to Mumbles for an ice cream. I managed a quick sketch in the Vojon, in between mouthfuls of Handi lamb Polongwala.

Curry Boy

22 Nov

22 curry boyHave a 9 year old nephew staying for the weekend and when he arrived at teatime he suggested that we might go to our local curry house, The Vojon, to ‘save’ me from having to cook. How thoughtful. He’s now old enough to order from the menu himself. He sticks with the safe choice in the kids’ menu, Chicken Tikka Masala, but he tries what Husb and I have as well, so today he got to appreciate a fine Handi Lamb Polongwala and a Chicken Sag Takka-Takka-Tin.

I made him sit still for me to have a scribble and I noticed how his skull is changing shape, not quite so alien any more, starting to show signs of turning human. He still has ridiculously large eyes and long eyelashes though. Drawn into my clothbound A5 sketchbook, prepared with ripped brown parcel paper stuck in with Pritt. I used Faber Castell Pitt drawing pens, sizes S, F and M.

Two Blokes I-podding

04 Vojon

It’s meat-free Monday so we went to our favourite curry house, The Vojon, for some sag ponir and garlic rice, sag aloo and tarka dal. Lovely. Restaurants are a good place for a quick scribble and I spotted these two chaps opposite, chatting and i-podding. Scribbled into my A6 blue silk recycled sketchbook with a Pentel V5 pen size 0.5mm.

Saturday Night Curry

2 Jun

Went for a Saturday Night Curry with a friend and his little girl, to celebrate his birthday. Best birthday present if you ask me. The food always takes a while at The Vojon, but it’s worth the wait because it’s lovely. They take good care of children too. I sketched the little one peeking from behind the glasses and dishes. She’s a tiny little thing with huge eyes. Once again, I have a problem drawing children because the proportions are so weird; they STILL look like aliens to me. Albeit quite cute aliens. There was a HUGE man in the background with virtually no neck.

I drew it into my little A6 sketchbook, the cat-themed one by Paperblanks [Mediterranean Cats] which I had for Xmas. Only a few pages before I finish it.
