Sketchbook Archives: 5

Back to January 2012, when I posted these to my blog. They weren’t all drawn then though. I started the blog in July 2011 to post my sketchbook drawings so I was choosing from several years worth of scribbles when I first began blogging.

Scribbling At The Steel Works…

Husb and I went to the demonstration to support industrial action at the TATA steelworks in Port Talbot, organised by the trade union, Unite. I sat down in the sunshine and had a scribble. There was a lot of red against the dark looming steelworks in the background.

A Short Film Of My Sketchbooks…

Husb made a short film of a lot of my sketchbook drawings. Many artists draw in sketchbooks but they’re rarely made public. So please have a look 😀

Sketchbook Archives: 4

Looking back through my old blog posts month by month, I’ve reached December 2011, about 6 months after I began this blog. Older relatives were increasingly in hospital, I spent a lot of time there, visiting, a good place for sketching, quiet and peaceful.

Sketchbook Archives: 3 (NYC)

I started this blog back in 2011 and I was delighted when, by the end of the first week, my statistics showed that 12 people – TWELVE – had read it. I was so excited. I’m still excited by it 13 years and around 4,300 posts later. And thrilled by the many people who nowContinue reading “Sketchbook Archives: 3 (NYC)”

Sketchbook Archives: 2

Here’s a few of the sketches I did en plein air back in September 2011, in the earliest days of this blog. I used to be out and about so much, scribbling away into my sketchbooks, but the Covid19 pandemic restrictions disrupted that and I haven’t really got back into it. I sketch at gigsContinue reading “Sketchbook Archives: 2”

Tha Bass Player …

And continuing the theme of musicians I have drawn at gigs recently, here’s a young bassist who also happens to be related to me. Aren’t I lucky? Bassists are cool. Graphite into my Khadi sketchbook.

A Head At A Gig … The Thoughtful One …

I spotted this bloke at a gig Husb and I recently went to, he was in the audience and lost in his own world of thoughts … which meant that he kept pretty still, easier for me to draw 😀  I used a graphite block into my Khadi handmade paper sketchbook.

A Head At A Gig….The Jolly One…

Here’s another muso from a gig Husb and I went to the other evening. He is a jolly musician in a very jolly and upbeat band. He was fun to draw. I used a graphite block into my Khadi handmade paper sketchbook. I like the thick graphite with this textured paper, anything finer would struggleContinue reading “A Head At A Gig….The Jolly One…”

A Head At A Gig…The Beardy One…

I love live music, I used to listen to albums for hours on end, but now I’m no longer a teenager, I prefer to go to gigs. It’s nice to get a chance to draw musicians too. This is a quick portrait sketch of a muso with a magnificent beard, I used a graphite blockContinue reading “A Head At A Gig…The Beardy One…”
