Swansea Caff Culture

Two days, two cities, two cafes. Husb and I went to the Marina Market in Swansea today, a lovely day, cold and crisp but sunny. There was also a Preloved Fair at the adjacent National Industrial and  Maritime Museum too. It was very busy and felt for the first time that winter might be lifting.Continue reading “Swansea Caff Culture”

The Waiting Room

Went with a loved one to the local hospital for x-rays and took the opportunity to have a scribble while I waited. It’s very selfish but hospital waiting rooms are good places for sketching as people are often very preoccupied and don’t notice you. This elderly man was dressed for the winter and kept hisContinue reading “The Waiting Room”

Random Sponging

I sponged a load of Khadi handmade paper with Indian ink washes and the heavy texture of the paper created some lovely variations in tone and texture. I was stuck indoors today working at the computer so Husb and I went for a walk this evening, in the dark and drizzle. We went down toContinue reading “Random Sponging”

Lazy Day

Apart from a visit to some delightful relatives, today’s been a lazy day. Yesterday was such lovely weather that Husb and I walked about 8 kilometres along the seafront in Swansea. Today we woke up to torrential rain and high winds so now this evening we’re cwtched at home behind tightly drawn curtains watching television.Continue reading “Lazy Day”

Big Specs

Grabbed a cuppa in the cafe in Waterstones bookshop earlier, one of my favourite places. Books, cake and hot beverages. Died and gone to heaven. The weather was awful, cold, very rainy and blowing a gale – miserable. But lovely inside my refuge.  As usual, I had a bit of a scribble and spotted thisContinue reading “Big Specs”

Puddings Together

It’s been horrible weather today. Winter has finally arrived; cold, wet, blowing a gale. Just the weather for making a steamed Golden Syrup sponge pudding with lashings of custard. It’s a pretty good survival strategy for a British November. Settled down for a bit of TV after the pud and the kittehs, Ming The MercilessContinue reading “Puddings Together”

Random Heads

Went for a walk to Mumbles with Husb and the Little Nephew today. The weather was crazy, alternating between warm sunshine and gale force winds and driving rain. We found a greasy spoon caff and piled into traditional fried breakfasts. It was enough to carry me through the rest of the day. Won’t need anythingContinue reading “Random Heads”

Up The Workers

I spent a happy day in the Rhondda village of Ynyshir, helping to paint the walls of the village’s new artspace, The Workers’ Gallery. Artists Gayle Rogers and Chris Williams are renovating the village’s old library and will be opening Wales’ newest art gallery next month. I nipped outside and stood in the drizzle, havingContinue reading “Up The Workers”
