Here’s another direct line(or trace) monotype, based on an original drawing I did in a life drawing session. I like twisted and contrapposto poses; I like the challenge of drawing them. This sort of monotype technique gives a gentle line and soft, smudgy textures. I used Intaglio Printmakers black litho/relief ink and a fairlyContinue reading “Twisted”

Smudginess Abounds
There are different ways of doing monotype prints. This technique is called a direct line monotype. You ink up a plate, usually perspex or glass, with a very thin layer of litho / relief printing ink. Then you gently lay a piece of good quality paper, not too thick, onto it and carefully drawContinue reading “Smudginess Abounds”
A Cartoon Nude
So I was only out for about 40 minutes first thing and I didn’t have time to scribble anything and I’ve been working on the computer all day because it isn’t all about creating arty stuff, I wish it was and I’m fed up scribbling my feet, Husb and the cats so here’s oneContinue reading “A Cartoon Nude”
In Praise Of Older Women
The last of this week’s life drawings done with my Samsung Galaxy Tablet Note 8 with the free Markers app. This model is an older woman, I like to work with older models because it challenges our society’s obsession with youth and narrow view of what beauty is.
Another Night, Another Nude
Another female nude from my life drawing session last night. I tried working without the stylus, using my finger instead which gives a nice fuzzy effect.
The Food Chain
Just back from life drawing at Swansea Print Workshop, working with one of my favourite models, an older woman covered in interesting tattoos based on the food chain.
New male nude
Just back from life drawing at Swansea Print Workshop where I did some experimenting with my new natural media, walnut sepia ink (I made this a few weeks ago) and Bideford Black, kindly sent to me by artists in North Devon. I was focussed on trying out these media to see what they canContinue reading “New male nude”
A Model Of Distinction
Just back from life drawing at Swansea Print Workshop. I used my Samsung Galaxy Tablet Note 8 with the free Markers app for this 45 minute pose. I really enjoy working with this model. She has a very distinctive face.
We’ll Be Back!
I finished my big drawing today at Creative Bubble artspace in the city centre. The art collective I’m in, 15 Hundred Lives, has been using the venue for two days a month for over a year now, this was our 14th event. The three of us, collagist Sylvie Evans, painter Graham Parker and me, useContinue reading “We’ll Be Back!”
Bideford Black
I was with a group of artists working with the 15 Hundred Lives collective at Creative Bubble today. We have the artspace for a couple of days every month to work together and to let the public come in and see how art is created. I’ve been working on a very big drawing in charcoalContinue reading “Bideford Black”
