Work In Progress: Miner’s Wives1.

I spent a few hours down at Swansea Print Workshop this afternoon, trying out some more ideas for the print I intend to make about the glorious South Wales Miner’s Wives from the 1984-1985 strike. I have already made some pen and ink sketches from contemporary press photos and I’m trying out different materials toContinue reading “Work In Progress: Miner’s Wives1.”

A Month Of Maris #13

Another of my  Mari Lwyd artworks from the archives that I’m posting up to her night, Hen Galan on January 13th. It’s a reduction monotype that I did back in 2016 from an original drawing in my sketchbook. This one is really menacing.

Playing with The Mari #1.

I’ve been playing with my latest Mari Lwyd drawing in Adobe Photoshop, using the Gradient Map function. It’s fun and chilled, there’s no pressure.

And The Mari Came Too.

There were lots of performers at the Riverside Folk Club last week, mostly human. But suddenly The Mari Lwyd arrived, wreaking havoc and mischief across the room. Of course, I had to scribble her.

Stripy Shiny Skull

Here’s my Mari Lwyd linocut for this year. I cut the block a couple of weeks ago and did some proof prints at the 9-to-90 Creative Community to demonstrate the chine collé technique. But I wanted something different, rather than the usual tissue papers, for this year’s annual print. I went to the latest exhibitionContinue reading “Stripy Shiny Skull”

One, Two, Three ……

The show is in Orchard Street Gallery which is part of HQ Urban Kitchen on Swansea’s Orchard Street and runs through to the end of January. The other venues showing my work are Cinema&Co.ffee and GS Artists.

Having A Bit Of Fun.

Art is often seen as highbrow and serious but art is also fun and Husb and I had a great time this evening at GS Artist’s opening event for this year’s 9to90 Creative Community Annual Show – and collage session. Swansea artist Rachael Barry provided the inspiration to chill out and have a good timeContinue reading “Having A Bit Of Fun.”

Beginning The Process.

I’m starting to develop a new linocut a part of a new group project by Swansea Print Workshop (more to come on this). The subject I have chosen is the South Wales Miners’ Wives during the strike in the 1980s. I knew one of the wives, she was featured in the film Pride, those womenContinue reading “Beginning The Process.”

#NoExcuse – Ana Mendieta.

dinahvagina is a multi media artist living and working in Wales. Her work in this new #NoExcuse exhibition is about the horrifying death of Cuban American artist Ana Mendieta. She was pushed from / fell from/ jumped from the 34th floor of her apartment block. Her husband was charged with her murder but was eventuallyContinue reading “#NoExcuse – Ana Mendieta.”

#NoExcuse – The Missing Women.

This mixed media piece, “Missing Women” is by The RAD Collective, a newly formed group of working-class creatives in South Wales that includes visual artists and writers who choose to work anonymously, “The first rule of the RAD Collective is you do not talk about the RAD Collective!”. Members of the Collective share ideas, resources,Continue reading “#NoExcuse – The Missing Women.”
