Foetal!

Here’s another one from last night’s life drawing session at Swansea Print Workshop. I love drawing models in a foetal position. There’s a terrific tension and movement in the pose as well as some great foreshortening. I precoloured a canvas sheet, size A3, with Rodamine Red oil pigment, squeegeed on with a cheap window-cleaning squeegeeContinue reading “Foetal!”

Indulging Myself

Just back from life drawing at Swansea Print Workshop. I really like this model because he’s as thin as Egon Schiele’s models and I came all over German Expressionist. We had one of the spotlights on so I was able to indulge myself with some chiaroscuro. I also love extreme foreshortening like this. Great eveningContinue reading “Indulging Myself”

Not Enough Time

I had a really good run of drawings at Thursday night’s life drawing session at Swansea Print Workshop. I decided to use different drawing materials and papers during the evening to keep it fresh, otherwise I tend to slip into my comfort zone of Faber Castell Pitt drawing pens and small sketchbooks. This is aContinue reading “Not Enough Time”

Squished Man

Went to life drawing at Swansea Print Workshop last night and our model did a great recliner pose. I love drawing foreshortening because I really like weird stuff. Our model, Ben, looks squished in my drawing but I kept checking and measuring so it’s reasonably accurate. Just weird. I used my Samsung Galaxy tablet withContinue reading “Squished Man”

Vivid Pink

I’ve been re-using some experimental work I’d been doing, that I wasn’t happy with. I’ve been taking the boards, prepared with rhodamine red and lemon yellow oil pigment, to different places. I took one to my weekly life-drawing session yesterday and drew this 30 minute pose in black and white conte crayon with a fewContinue reading “Vivid Pink”

Cake And Foreshortening

So this evening I took myself off to life drawing at Swansea Print Workshop, bearing an abundance of cakes for our tea break. How civilised is that? I did a couple of sketches in oil bars that I was quite pleased with, then we had this pose to finish up with after tea and cake.Continue reading “Cake And Foreshortening”

Reclining Pose

Each day, the lurgi seems a bit weaker and I went to life drawing tonight, for the first time in a month! I only managed an hour but I did some quick pen and ink sketches, using a traditional dip pen and then I used chalky pastels and graphite block (6B) to draw this fabulousContinue reading “Reclining Pose”

Wonky Feet

Carrying on with my mini-theme of drawing everyday things from a different angle, I curled up on my chair this evening and drew the view down my legs, with my cat, Sparta, curled up next to my wonky feet. There was some serious foreshortening going on and it’s not a flattering portrayal of my gamsContinue reading “Wonky Feet”

Aaarrgghhh! Hands!

Life drawing tonight – really lovely pose except for the hands! I tried to draw them twice and they ended up looking like one good hand with a couple of sausages attached. Floppy sausages. With nails. aaaaarrrggghhhh! So frustrating. The other pose was nice too – some severe foreshortening – love it. I usedContinue reading “Aaarrgghhh! Hands!”
