Way Too Cute!

I took my teenage niece with me to do a spot of puppy-sitting yesterday and I also took a drawing board, some beautiful vintage paper – Saunders from the Wooky Hole paper mill in Somerset – and charcoal, compressed and willow. I intended to do some portrait drawing of my niece, but I reckoned withoutContinue reading “Way Too Cute!”

New Model, New Head.

Just back from life drawing at Swansea Print Workshop with a new digital portrait study. This is a new model and I haven’t drawn her before. This drawing took about 20 minutes on my Samsung Galaxy Tablet Note 8 using the free Markers app. Here’s a slideshow of the development of the drawing.

Northern Head

Here’s the other drawing I did at the life drawing group last night at Swansea Print Workshop. I spent about 35 minutes on this portrait using my Samsung Galaxy Tablet Note 8 with the free Markers app. I like working with this model, she has a very distinctive face, reminds me of Northern Renaissance paintings.Continue reading “Northern Head”

Developing A Head

Here’s another portrait drawing I did at Swansea Print Workshop’s life drawing group last night. I’ve saved the drawing regularly to show its development on my Samsung Galaxy tablet. I used a free Markers app and put in a dark ground to start with, working over it in lighter tones.

Finger Drawing

This is the last of the digital drawings I did at this week’s life drawing session. I forgot to take the stylus that goes with my Samsung Galaxy Note 8 tablet so I had to draw with my finger. It’s the first time I’ve done this and I’m quite pleased with the results. It’s muchContinue reading “Finger Drawing”

Process Of A Head

Here’s another digital study of a head, working with a professional model and using my Samsung Galaxy Tablet Note 8 with a free Markers app. I started with a mid grey background and built up the drawing using greys, black and white with the airbrush and translucent brushes. I saved at stages during the processContinue reading “Process Of A Head”

Head In Chiaroscuro

Just back from life drawing at Swansea Print Workshop and I continued practicing portraits using my Samsung Galaxy Tablet Note 8 with the free Markers app. I created a dark background and worked up the head in greys and white, emphasising the chiaroscuro effect from the ceiling spotlight.

Two Heads In Goat Street

Here are 2 more portrait drawings I did at the Goat Street Gallery in St Davids a couple of days ago. I was one of 11 artists gathered together by BBC1s ‘ The One Show ‘ to draw / paint as many portraits as possible in 5 hours. I was very nervous, people were queueingContinue reading “Two Heads In Goat Street”

Felafels And Rain

I’ve spent a long day hunched over a computer, from 9 am to 7.30 this evening, doing business stuff. I was hoping to have a workout on the gym on the beach but the heavens opened this evening and I wimped out. I did a bit of yoga in the living room and watched tellyContinue reading “Felafels And Rain”
