I had a couple of difficult months leading up to and just after Xmas with some of the seasonal viruses going around, so my annual Mari Lwyd print was put on hold for a while. I finally caught up with myself this week and printed my little Mari Lwyd lino blocks with foil chine collé.Continue reading “And Finally…Mari Lwyd!”

Coming Soon…
ii I have a painting featured in the upcoming Open Exhibition at the Queen Street Gallery in Neath. It opens on Saturday 1st February at 14.00 and continues until the 22nd of February. The image above shows last year’s winner, Swansea artist Simon Goss whose solo show is also opening at the same time. IContinue reading “Coming Soon…”
Scribbling In The Waiting Room: 2
A couple more head sketches from yesterday’s visit to our local A&E department (nothing serious as it turned out). People are quite still and easier to draw.
Scribbling In The Waiting Room: 1
I was in the A&E (ER) department today, nothing serious as it turns out. It’s a long process having tests and waiting for results so I did a bit of sketching. People tend to be quite still and quiet in waiting rooms. I had a bit of fun with cross-hatching with this one.
Just Watching And Scribbling.
I’ve got a few days off work and I did something I used to do a lot before Covid lockdowns, about once a week I’d go to a cafe for a cuppa and have a scribble as well. Cafes are good places for sketching as people are often absorbed in conversation or thought, so it’sContinue reading “Just Watching And Scribbling.”
Sketchbook Archives: 24
Looking back to my blog posts in March 2013, I was drawing a lot of heads in my sketchbooks. It’s good practice to sketch quickly at random, it really trains you to identify the necessary details and get them down.
Sketchbook Archives: 23
Here’s a selection of people sketches from my sketchbooks in February 2013. That was 7 years before Covid lockdowns when I used to be out and about scribbling so much. I sort of got out of the habit after lockdown, but also there seem to be far fewer people just hanging out in the cityContinue reading “Sketchbook Archives: 23”
Sketchbook Archives: 22
Here are a couple of rare landscapes from way back in 2012. I hardly ever portray landscape, I don’t feel much of a connection to be honest, these were done quickly with watercolours during a late summer walk at Mewslade on the Gower Peninsula and I had fun with the shapes and colours, rather thanContinue reading “Sketchbook Archives: 22”
A Bit Grinchy.
I haven’t posted for a couple of days because I went and did my back in on New Year’s Eve. OUCH! I’ve never had back pain before, what a shocker! It really stopped me in my tracks for 48 hours and it’s still a bit grinchy. Is that a technical term? 😀 That’s what itContinue reading “A Bit Grinchy.”
Heads And Carols.
Here are a few more heads I sketched at last week’s Christmas Carol and other music performance at The Westbourne pub. There was a great atmosphere with lots of audience participation. I scribbled these quickly with a borrowed Schneider pen, I forgot my usual ballpoint. It gives me a very different line, which took someContinue reading “Heads And Carols.”
