The Blues

Spent a happy few hours at Swansea Print Workshop this evening experimenting with cyanotype. I want to do some onto fabric rather than paper so I had to try out some different materials and methods of application today. I had three different fabrics; a very lightweight white muslin, a cream coloured stiff cotton and gesso-coatedContinue reading “The Blues”

Pen. Paper. Nude. Chair.

Just back from life drawing at Swansea Print Workshop. I started drawing with my Samsung Galaxy tablet and the darn thing ran out of battery! So I had to go old school and use pen and paper; Faber Castell Pitt drawing pen size F in sepia into a Khadi handmade paper sketchbook, pre coloured withContinue reading “Pen. Paper. Nude. Chair.”

Developing A Head

Here’s another portrait drawing I did at Swansea Print Workshop’s life drawing group last night. I’ve saved the drawing regularly to show its development on my Samsung Galaxy tablet. I used a free Markers app and put in a dark ground to start with, working over it in lighter tones.

Drama In Rags

Yesterday I blogged some drawings I’d based on my travel sketchbook during my artist residency in Pakistan earlier this year. Today I developed one of these sketches into a full colour monotype down at Swansea Print Workshop. The technique involves inking up a perspex (plexiglass / acetate) plate with oil based printing inks and removingContinue reading “Drama In Rags”

A Head In Lines

Here’s another digital study I did at this week’s life drawing at Swansea Print Workshop. I took a different approach with this one and concentrated on line rather than tone. I did this on my Samsung Galaxy Tablet Note 8 using the free Markers app and drew with the smart stylus.

Smudgy Finger

Just back from life drawing at Swansea Print Workshop. I concentrated on portraiture this evening. I used my Samsung Galaxy Tablet Note 8 with the free Markers app and used my finger for this study rather than the stylus. It gives a much softer and smudgier effect. I built the drawing by overlaying tones ontoContinue reading “Smudgy Finger”

More Of The Same

I had a marathon monotype session at Swansea Print Workshop yesterday and produced 4 full colour monotypes and 4 ‘ghost’ monotypes which is a record for me. I was corpsed at the end of it though. I drew the yellow and red plates in broad strokes with cotton rags and scrim (tarlatan). On the final,Continue reading “More Of The Same”

On My Feet All Day

I’m working on a series of full colour reduction monotypes at the moment and I spent all day at Swansea Print Workshop, on my feet! I’m exhausted. People don’t realise how tiring art can be. The series is based on small pastel drawings I did when I was in Pakistan earlier this year.  This techniqueContinue reading “On My Feet All Day”
