Tiniest Tweaks….

I’ve almost finished this painting of two siblings on Swansea Beach in the dark last summer. We went to see the bioluminescence in the bay and sat around a driftwood fire for a while, watching the stars. It was lovely. I took some photos and the painting is from one of those – many ofContinue reading “Tiniest Tweaks….”

Revisiting

I’ve been browsing through my files, looking at past work as I do from time to time. It’s good to get a bit of distance and take a second look at things, especially those I wasn’t too fond of first time round. I cut some small vinyl blocks, using random marks, about 4 years agoContinue reading “Revisiting”

More Sketchbook Figures

Just a couple of people standing around at the gallery the other evening. I scribbled them with a ballpoint pen into my A5 leather-bound sketchbook.

Scribbling At An Exhibition.

Husb and I went to the opening of an exhibition of glorious collaborative prints by Welsh artist Sarah Hopkins and Pakistani artist Muhammad Atif Khan at Studio Griffith in the Dynefor campus at University of Wales Trinity Saint Davids, SA1 3EU. And that’s a pretty big opening sentence! The show is called Diptych and runsContinue reading “Scribbling At An Exhibition.”

The 9 to 90 Art Community.

Here’s another sketch I did at GS Artists last week, at one of the Friday art clubs organised by the indefatigable artist Jane Simpson for the 9 to 90 art community. People from all walks of life pop in to try out different art and craft techniques. If you’re in Swansea on Friday afternoons, comeContinue reading “The 9 to 90 Art Community.”

Emerging ….

I started this painting a while back, from a photograph of two grown-up siblings on the beach back in the summer with a driftwood fire. It’s taken lots of layers of paint, doing a bit of work and then returning to it, again and again, the siblings emerging more and more with each layer ofContinue reading “Emerging ….”

Scribbles and Jaffa Cakes ….

I did some scribbling in GS Artists this afternoon, at the weekly community art club, the “9to90 Creative Community“. It’s open to anyone in the area and provides an afternoon of free arts and crafts in a lovely atmosphere. Of course, I had to have a scribble…. and a few Jaffa Cakes ……

Squished Scribble.

Here’s another drawing I did last weekend at a poetry fundraiser for Harry’s Fund at Elysium. This woman was sitting in a squished way so was very interesting to draw. It took a while to get it right. I used the continuous line method but kept stopping to look because her angles didn’t seem quiteContinue reading “Squished Scribble.”

Poetry, Fundraising and Swansea Market.

I went to a poetry reading at Elysium the other day. It’s not like me, I’m not usually a fan of poetry. But these were by local poet David Hughes and I really like his work. It isn’t pretentious and bourgeois, it’s down to earth, relatable and often fun. The poems were performed by aContinue reading “Poetry, Fundraising and Swansea Market.”

Painting Upside Down 3

Did a bit more work on this painting of siblings in my family today. I find that it’s so much easier to work from a photograph upside down, which is liberating because it ceases to be representational, everything becomes shapes, colours, tones and lines.
