Big And Messy!

I did some teaching this week, with a group of adults at GS Artists in Swansea as part of their excellent 9to90 Community Arts programme. We did BIG acrylic paintings with life size figures and a tennis theme for Summer. And it was MESSY! Loved it! I started out by getting people to draw around each others bodies toContinue reading “Big And Messy!”

Wonderful Colourful.

Husb and I have been at a conference all weekend, it was hard work but really informative and provocative – in a good way – provoking thought and plans and action. I managed to find a bit of time for sketching though, with my Faber Castell Pitt drawing pens (Sepia) and Inktense watercolour blocks. IContinue reading “Wonderful Colourful.”

A Rub-Down With Wire Wool.

I spent the afternoon at Swansea Print Workshop, practising with letterpress again. After last weeks big fail, I went back to an acronym. The type is old, wooden, vintage and some possibly antique and I’m not familiar enough with it yet to be able to tell what condition it’s in until I’ve printed it. ThisContinue reading “A Rub-Down With Wire Wool.”

Epic Fail!

Sometimes things go wrong and I had an epic fail a few days ago when I was working on a new Letterpress piece at Swansea Print Workshop. I spent ages setting up the type, I really liked how it looked in its wooden state so I inked it up with a rainbow roll, using CranfiedContinue reading “Epic Fail!”

Pollards In A Park In Porto

Husb and I went away for a few days, which is why I haven’t blogged recently. It’s our first trip outside the UK since before Covid19 and to be honest I was nervous, but we met up with family from different parts of the world in Porto in Portugal and it was so lovely. TheContinue reading “Pollards In A Park In Porto”

Let The Water Do The Work.

Here’s another little watercolour from my adult teaching session this week. I’ve been emphasising that the important thing about watercolours is actually the water, letting the image develop as it dries. We flooded the stretched Bockingford paper with clean water then using a very wet brush, “dropped” the wet pigment onto the paper without overworkingContinue reading “Let The Water Do The Work.”

Teaching Watercolours – The Reveal

Today was a fun day. Last week’s adult education group prepared some samples of different watercolour effects but they were still wet when they left (below), so today we had the big reveal! It’s always exciting and these techniques often have that WOW factor! We used Winsor & Newton Cotman half pans onto Bockingford watercolourContinue reading “Teaching Watercolours – The Reveal”
