Chalk And Cheese

I’m collaborating with fellow artist Unity aka Millimagic who works with graffiti style forms, influenced by hip hop culture. I have rarely collaborated on an artwork in the past and this, along with Unity’s cultural influences are new to me. Musically I’m a rock chick and I’d describe my style of art as fairly traditional, so we’re a bit like chalk and cheese. Here’s a little glimpse of something we’re working on for International Women’s Day. It will be launched at a new exhibition in Cinema & Co in Swansea on March the 12th. Watch this space ……

Sketching And Stretching

2018 beatbox tangent

I was scribbling in the dark at a venue called The Moon in Cardiff last week at an evening of performers of words and music gathered there by Rufus Mufasa at the launch of her album. Of course I had to have a scribble….. Here’s Beatbox Tangent who was moving so fast that a lot of the drawing was done very quickly, focusing on generalisations rather than details. Working like this, the drawings often look a bit stretched. It’s hard to draw in the dark, but good practice.

A Scribble In The Darkness

2018 jan the moon Cardiff

Husb and I were up in the ‘Diff (that’s Cardiff if you’re outside Wales) earlier this week for an evening of words and music the like of which I haven’t heard before. I’ve always been a metal-head, headbanging’s in my blood, but I loved the different styles of music I heard the other night. Rufus Mufasa has put together a great mix of performers to launch her album. Of course I had to have a scribble….. Here’s Beatbox Tangent (I think, I was so busy scribbling I kept forgetting to listen out for performer’s names) and someone in the audience listening. It’s hard to draw in the dark, but good discipline.

Check out Rufus’ album, “Fur Coats From The Lion’s Den“. If you like it please buy a copy as it’s so hard to make a living as a creative xxx

I’m A Rock Chick But ……..

2018 jan crazy jack

Husb and I were out in Cardiff on Tuesday night, at The Moon venue, to see the awesome poet, Rufus Mufasa and her friends, a crazy crew of rappers, poets and musicians. Now I’m a headbanger and rock chick and I’m not usually in to any other sort of music but the hip hop and rapping scene in South Wales is amazing and I bought a non-rock / metal CD!!!! It’s Rufus’ album, “Fur Coats From The Lion’s Den”. It’s brilliant. Really brilliant. She’s immensely talented. You can hear it on YouTube but if you like it, please buy a copy because it’s so hard to make a living when you’re a creative.

Of course, I had a scribble. Craze The Jack is performing on the left and Jordan Da Cruz (I think) is leaning up against a wall on the right. It’s not easy scribbling in a very dark club, but it’s really good practice. And the rappers tend to jump around a lot so that’s good exercise too, capturing them in a few lines when they’re moving so much. I used a 6B graphite stick into my A5 lined notebook by Peter Pauper Press.
