Another digital drawing from Thursday night’s life drawing group at Swansea Print Workshop. This is a 10 minute warm-up sketch, drawn on my Samsung Galaxy Note 8.0 with a free Markers app.

Female Nude (parental guidance)
I’ve put parental guidance on this because it goes to my Facebook profile and these days Facebook is a bit finicky about nudity, even when it’s art. It didn’t use to be so. When I joined Facebook, the pictures going round were pretty close to the bone. But now it’s gone all respectable so I’mContinue reading “Female Nude (parental guidance)”
Hares And Colombians
I’ve been doing a lot of drawings from British wildlife photos and I’ve started to cut little lino blocks from them. I’ll be taking these to Swansea Print Workshop soon to ink them up and print them on the old Columbian Press, one of my favourite pieces of machinery. I’ll probably use an oil-based relief/lithoContinue reading “Hares And Colombians”
A Quick Nude
Just back from life drawing at Swansea Print Workshop and I did this on my Samsung Galaxy Note 8.0 (8 inch) using a free Markers app. The pose was 25 minutes long. Very tricky foreshortening, really hard. With this app, I need to put in a solid background before drawing so I usually lay downContinue reading “A Quick Nude”
Foetal!
Here’s another one from last night’s life drawing session at Swansea Print Workshop. I love drawing models in a foetal position. There’s a terrific tension and movement in the pose as well as some great foreshortening. I precoloured a canvas sheet, size A3, with Rodamine Red oil pigment, squeegeed on with a cheap window-cleaning squeegeeContinue reading “Foetal!”
Drawn In The USA
This is my first video. I took some footage during my residency at Wingtip Press in Boise, Idaho last year and edited it with stills of the artwork wthat was produced by the artists I was working with, both there and later in Swansea Print Workshop. It won’t win any Oscars but it’s nice toContinue reading “Drawn In The USA”
Not Enough Time
I had a really good run of drawings at Thursday night’s life drawing session at Swansea Print Workshop. I decided to use different drawing materials and papers during the evening to keep it fresh, otherwise I tend to slip into my comfort zone of Faber Castell Pitt drawing pens and small sketchbooks. This is aContinue reading “Not Enough Time”
Nudity, Misery, Curry…..
I had a good session at life drawing group last night and tried out different media and papers throughout the evening. Here’s one I did in willow charcoal, compressed charcoal and chalk onto a lightweight textured paper; I don’t know the make as it was given to me and doesn’t have a watermark, but it’sContinue reading “Nudity, Misery, Curry…..”
Practice and Photobomb!
I did some portrait drawings this afternoon, working with friend and fellow artist Natie. I’m preparing for a major piece of work later this year and need to bring my portrait drawing up to scratch, so Natie dropped by to help me out and I did some drawings in charcoal and chalk onto newspaper. IContinue reading “Practice and Photobomb!”
Head Shot
Just got back from life drawing group at Swansea Print Workshop where I concentrated on doing a portrait. I’ve been doing life drawing and studying anatomy for decades but I don’t think I get enough practice with faces, so I’m going to focus on heads for a bit. This is a pretty good likeness. IContinue reading “Head Shot”
