Choppy Texture

Here’s the latest fake I did with Ed Sumner’s Cheese and Wine Painting Club on Facebook. Ed started the weekly lunchtime sessions at the start of Covid19 lockdown in March last year and he’s done about 70 so far. This week it’s a copy of a painting by David Hockney. I think the original showsContinue reading “Choppy Texture”

Faking A Vincent

Finally finished faking Friday’s masterpiece, Sunset at Wheat Field by Vincent van Gogh, painted in 1888. I started it with Ed Sumner’s Cheese and Wine Painting Club on Facebook. Ed’s been running these sessions since lockdown started in March last year, to help people find a focus in these weird times. I’ve now completed overContinue reading “Faking A Vincent”

And The Cat Helped …..

Painting van Gogh’s bedroom in under a minute – and the cat helped too. Husb films me when I’m faking on Fridays with Ed Sumner’s Cheese and Wine Painting Club over on Facebook and then edits several hours of painting into around a minute. It took about 6 hours really. A Chance To Own OneContinue reading “And The Cat Helped …..”

Finally Finished Vincent’s Bedroom

I finally finished faffing with van Gogh’s painting of his bedroom in Arles. I started it a few weeks ago on one of painter Ed Sumner’s Zoom tutorials. It’s a lot more complex than it looks. Vincent’s brushwork is multi-layered and his composition, although it looks simple, has some difficult distorted perspective. Of course IContinue reading “Finally Finished Vincent’s Bedroom”

Faffing With Vincent

I’m still faffing with this copy of Vincent van Gogh’s “Bedroom In Arles”, it’s a lot more complex than it looks at first, as are all his paintings. Although the composition is relatively simple, the complexity is in the layers and layers of paint piled thickly onto the surface of the canvas. I love itContinue reading “Faffing With Vincent”

van Gogh On Speed

Here’s one of van Gogh’s boat paintings speeded up – all done and dusted in a minute! I wish!!!! He did a number of studies on the beach at Les Saintes Marie de la Mer in the south of France. It was supposed to be where Mary Magdalene’s boat landed when she arrived in FranceContinue reading “van Gogh On Speed”

Finished Faffing With Vincent’s Vessels

I finally finished copying van Gogh’s “Fishing Boats on the Beach at Saintes-Maries” that I started a couple of weeks ago in a Zoom tutorial with the painter Ed Sumner. This is the 47th fake I’ve painted since the first lockdown started just over a year ago. Not bad considering I’m a scribbler and printmaker,Continue reading “Finished Faffing With Vincent’s Vessels”

Oooh Nearly There….

I’ve almost finished the copy I’ve been doing of van Gogh’s “Fishing Boats on the Beach at Saintes Marie de la Mer”. It’s almost there, just a bit more faffing to do and it should be done. The beach is supposed to be where Mary Magdalene, along with two other Biblical Marys, landed in FranceContinue reading “Oooh Nearly There….”

Faffing With The Fishing Boats

More work done on the van Gogh that I’m copying, “Fishing Boats on a Beach”. It’s almost there, just a bit more faffing to do and it should be finished. I’m using Liquitex Heavy Body acrylic paints onto stretched, primed canvas. I started it last week in a Zoom tutorial from Ed Sumner who runsContinue reading “Faffing With The Fishing Boats”

Faking van Gogh

And another bit of fakery! This time it’s van Gogh’s “Fishing Boats on the Beach (at Saint Marie)” from 1888. I’m about halfway through it. I love copying van Gogh, I’ve always loved his work, since I was a schoolkid, and it is joyous as well as instructive to do these paintings. I started itContinue reading “Faking van Gogh”
